Best tow vehicle I've owned

We just bought a 2011 F150 EcoBoost Platinum with max tow that has 90k miles on it to serve duty as the family hauler, towing the camper, and trips to the hardware store. I can't comment on long term reliability yet, because we just got it, but its service history looks clean, and I've yet to discover any major hidden mechanical issues. There is a small bit of rust on the rockers, and one of the cab corners that seems to be pretty common on these trucks, but it looks like mine just started so I plan to get that taken care of while it's still just cosmetic. We spent the last 7 years towing with my wifes 2011 Explorer, which is now north of 200k miles so when looking to replacing our aging 98 Ram pickup we opted for something that could serve the duties we'd previously split across two vehicles, and relegate the explorer to strictly commuter duty. While I never had any issues towing our camper with the Explorer, the F150 is a whole new ballgame. I expect this won't be news to anyone who's been towing with full sized trucks, but my recent trip towing the camper with this vehicle was the most relaxed towing experience I've ever had. I could barely tell the camper was even there. The F150 also has gobs of interior space, rides nice, drives nice and is quiet. The kids love sitting up high, and the big windows. The Ram's of the same era have some better interior storage solutions, but I opted to stick with a Ford since I'm already familiar with many of their systems, and have the scan tools to help diagnose them when there are problems. I also really wanted to give the ecoboost a shot after reading about how nicely they tow, and I was not disappointed. Aside from that, the seats are comfortable, the truck has tons of adjustment to accommodate different drivers (and memory seats thankfully), gobs of space in the back for kids and the dog, and it's quiet enough that you can comfortably carry out a conversation with everyone in the truck. The interior has a few more hard plastics than I'd prefer, and the original touch screen sync system still works fine but it's interface feels pretty dated at this point. If you are in the market for a pickup truck, the last generation of steel bodied F150's are worth a look.

This truck performs like a much newer vehicle.

It looks and performs like a much newer vehicle. The features and options of the Harley-Davidson makes it comparable to the options available in a brand new vehicle.

Didn't expect so many issues w/o recall

I really like my truck & would love it if it's hiccups would have been recalled by Ford. The biggest pain is the driver heated seat has a tendency to burn up the foam cushioning & short out (which did won't cover cost of retirement). The most expensive problem concerns the rear window defrost. It's common for the wires feeding the heat to get pinched & short out (there's no fixing the issue w/o replacing the entire rear window because the wiring is integrated into the glass & it's not humanly possible to repair w/o further damage). Next issue goes hand in hand w/ rear defrost, the power side mirror defrost won't work because it's on the same circuit as the rear window defrost. I wasn't thrilled when I noticed the spare tire doesn't match the 4 you're rolling on. Another disappointment is all the reviews I read say the average MPG was 14-19, I'm yet to see anything better than 12MPG unloaded on the highway. If I recommend this vehicle to anyone, I would be very clear about notifying them of these issues & for them to get these items warranted by seller, or no sale.

bad issue that ford will not deal with

truck was fine till it developed what ford calls cold start rattle. ford has sent statement out to dealers about this but will not man up and take care or at least help with costs.2400.00 fix. in their statement 2011-2015 ford 150 with echo boost develops the issue, timing rattle at start up. new time and cam censers is the fix.truck had 72000 when started the issue.

Very capable! Exactly what I needed.

Love this truck! Coming from an 02 crew cab there is noticeably more room in the back seat. Ample leg room for adults with front seats all the way back. Hauls the whole family (6 of us) comfortably!

Ford Tough after 140000 miles

The used F-150 FX4 I recently purchased has everything I need. Four big doors lets all the family get in and out easily. The bed came with an easy to operate tonneau cover already installed. The motor has 140,000 miles on it but because it's the workhorse 5.0 liter, 302 CID motor, it'll last for a long time to come.

Boring, annoying truck to drive

This was a 3.5 ecoboost loaded with almost all options. It was ok overall, but really boring to look at inside and out plus had a very annoying turbo lag when starting from a dead stop. I bought a programmer in hopes I could reduce the annoyance and it made the truck noticably quicker, but the lag was unchanged. I didn't do anything other than a 93 common 93 octane tune and it developed a rod knock at about 30k miles. Not impressed with it's skookum (as AvE would say).

Great Truck

This truck is fantastic. I love it , sync is very easy to use even easier than the newer model. Gas mileage sucks but what do you expect from a v8 truck. Seats are incredibly comfortable and is very easy to drive
