Some are good and some are really bad

I bought this car used in 2013 with 32k miles on it. I feel like ford made some good focus's that have lasted and given minimal issue and then there were also some bad ones made that are completely unreliable and in the shop. I've put 120k miles on it in 6 years, I do minimal maintenance and its still trucking along for now. I do regular oil changes and replace the tires with used tires when they start to wear down. The vehicle has only been in the shop twice due to issues any other time its there for a recall. The first time in the shop was when I was about 4 hours from home travelling for work and the vehicle completely died on the highway, the engine wouldn't turn and I think all the power went out as well. I had it towed and it was a transmission issue, the manual/automatic transmission has been giving people hell and mine finally gave out. BUT the only saving grace was that there was an active recall on the transmission so they managed to get it back up and running and I didn't have to spend a dime. Ive probably added close to 20k miles since then and I haven't had any issues. The other time it was in the shop was for a slipped belt in one of the tires, no biggie and it was an easy fix. At 150k with only the issues I mentioned, then things are going pretty good. Don't be fooled by how the focus appears, it looks like a very small car not much bigger than a compact. But when you open the truck or pack the vehicle full you realize that there is actually a ton of room in the vehicle. I was able to fit 16 foldable plastic chairs from a party into my focus and still had plenty of room for me to sit. I have two large adjustable car seats in the backseat, they both fit just fine only downside is that there isn't room for anyone else to sit back there, this wasn't an issue for me though, I was also able to fit a double stroller and various other items in the truck because its a very deep trunk. This vehicle would work better for someone on the shorter side if they plan on putting car seats in the back. There is only so much room between the seats and the kids legs and often times the kids are kicking the seats due to the small space. I cant think of any serious issues to note with the exterior and interior of the vehicle. I have black leather seats and a grey exterior. The leather seats make it look more expensive, but in the summer heat those seats will light your butt right up. The exterior is really sporty and fun compared to the old Focus styles. It has a sleek outer body with sport tires and stock sporty rims. If the rims weren't there it probably wouldn't look nearly as nice. The car is no the quietest thing, but neither of my babies had any issues falling asleep in it. If you are looking for a smooth comfortable car then this is not the one for you. It is comfortable but not the smoothest, and not the quietest as well and is pretty shaky. I do feel that this vehicle depreciates at an alarming rate and this would be the only reason I would not recommend buying one. I am upside down on mine and barely get any money for a trade in. But if that doesn't bother you then I would get one. I drive this thing like a bat our of hell. I curbcheck way more than I should, speed, travel long distances and I live in a city with a ridiculous amount of potholes and just terrible roads and general and the car has taken the beating like a champ. One last thing to add, I haven't hit anything or seen it get hit besides being rear ended, but there are some small dents on the sides, either from carts or car doors but unfortunately I cant say how easy they might of been made. I was rear ended once at a stop light, the vehicle wasn't going fast as he was stopping for the light, but got distracted I suppose and hit me in the rear, it just left a little dent in the bumper, he was going fast enough to cause more damage but not even close to fast enough to cause serious damage.

DO NOT BUY THE FORD FOCUS

This car is junk. Do not buy it! I've had the clutch replaced 3 times now to no fault of my own. My warranty is up in February of 2020 and I don't know what to do. The car is paid off, only 55k on it and when I asked the service guy how long this next clutch will last, he says he doesn't know. With that being said, he did tell me that it will cost me 2k out if pocket the next time. And, this is all FORD's fault. The car is junk- do not buy it!!!!!

Worst car ever

I absolutely hate this car. I’ve owned mine for five years now and have had nothing but problems. It’s failed it’s emission test every year because of all the problems. I’ve had the transmission fixed three times now. Drives terribly. The only good thing about it is the mpg. But even then it only holds 12 gallons of gas so you have to stop all the time to fill up anyway.

Get the 5 speed

So I wanted a cheapish vehicle to keep the miles off my F150 that gets 15mpg. Love the truck but expensive to drive and racking up the miles. Bought this little guy in perfect shape with 85,000 miles for 4.3k. I read horror stories about the newer automatics so I searched for a manual. Zippy, great gas mileage, descent interior room, handles great and fun to drive. Yes I test drove an auto and even in the short test drive the shifting was inconsistent and didnt feel right. 85 down the highway straight as an arrow no shakes or shudders. If you read through all the reviews 90% of the complaints are the auto/manual tranny. Almost all of the manual reviews are 4-5 stars. Being that no one really seems to want a manual you should be able to score yourself a good deal if you dont mind doing the shifting. Fun little car!

Best car I've owned

Love this car. My only gripe is lack of interior storage Otherwise no problems had this 3 years now. Had new springs but have today with the amount of speed bumps everywhere I'm not surprised. I do think it's a weakness though as this happened on another focus I owned. No I am not a speed queen but speed bumps are everywhere now.

The worst car I owned

I went to dealership for clutch repair twice with 7 years before warranty expired ( 7 years). The dealership asked for $2500 to replace the clutch if I pay the money by myself. It has no value to keep it. Plan to sell the troubles.

Worst car ive owned

This car i purchased used w 25k miles on it. Started out great...then all the recalls hit...door latches...transmission...fuel tank. I have had the car in the shop 4x this yr bc after the Ford dealership did a routine oil change and tire rotation....the trany which had been fixed had suddenly started doing the whole...spin, shudder, bucking and hard shifting again. 3 more times into the shop bc it wasnt going away...they say its fine...nothing wrong w it. Yet IF i could drive it today...itd be shuddering n bucking after each stop light! So...my latest issue is... POWER STEERING FAULT...SERVICE REQUIRED. The car is a 2013 and now has 41k miles on it. The fault showed up a cple wkes ago when i was leaving to run errands. Put it in park...turned it off...waited a minute then turned it bk on...error/ fault code gone and car steered fine...until last night. Leaving work...it came on again...tried my fix...didnt work...had to get it towed bc i couldnt steer it. Come to find out there's been hundreds of steering problems and accidents because of the steering failing w these cars which Ford refuses to recall. My car has 41k miles on it and the rack and pinion steering has locked up....the motor is shot and can't be replaced. The entire rack has to be replaced....and nope! Not covered by warranty or any recalls. Ford...FOUND ON ROAD DEAD BC OF STEERING ASSIST FAULT!!! Worst car I've ever bought....def wont be buying a Ford ever again.

The biggest car purchasing mistake I've ever made

I bought this car with 36000 miles on it from a large dealership. I am at 4 about 6 years with many periodic issues. I had multiple transmission issues which cost me both out of pocket and time. DAC never ran correctly but can never be diagnosed as to why. The Dual clutch technology in this car is poor. Ford should have done much more research before implementing such a system. This car left me stranded on the side of the road multiple times. Despite the nice Bluetooth connectivity and leather interior it just simply was not enough for me to keep it past 98,000 miles. Instead I traded down to a 2010 CRV with more miles because I would rather have a dependable vehicle. I would highly recommend staying away from this car.

Avoid at all costs - major transmission problems

Beautiful car. Fun to drive. But I had to replace the transmission 5 times in 98K miles. They were all warranty until the last one. But that is insanity. Do not buy this car from anyone, even me who is trying to sell mine right now. I genuinely feel bad selling it to anyone.
