Some Mustang Quirks

I purchased this 2006 Mustang GT with 25,000-miles on it. It now has 72,000-miles. I drive it like I stole it. The car does have its quirks. One being its poor design around the windshield. Ford did fix it under warranty, but did have to make three visits to accomplish it. Seems they had a design and a production flaw with the A-pillar and grommet area under the cowling. It leaked rain terribly until it was fixed by Ford. The other quirk is its over-drive feature on the 5-speed automatic. One must bypass it if driving under freeway speeds or the transmission does not know if to up-shift or down-shift. I just bypass over-drive if not on the freeway. It does not take that much more gas. Otherwise, it is a good car for the money. These two flaws are fixable, so I would recommend this car to anyone. Well,I still drive it like I stole it.

Fast, fun and surprisingly reliable.

I bought my 06 Stang GT almost exactly one year ago, to the day of this review. She's a 06 GT premium 5 spd and let me tell you, I couldn't be happier, so far. She's fast, fun and surprisingly reliable. She turns heads and hangs with cars that far exceed her cost. So, yea, like I was saying, she sure is fast and fun. When I bought here, she was stock except for some Flowmaster Axle back American Thunders. Now, she was plenty capable, stock, but almost as soon as I took delivery, I added a CAI and a email tune and she became a whole another beast. I then proceeded to add LT headers, a high flow catted X-pipe, muffler deletes, CMCP delete plates, underdrive pulleys, 4.10 gears, a short shifter, a dyno tune and lots of cosmetic goodies over the course of the past year and let me tell you, there's not a day that goes by, that she doesn't put a smile on my face. Ear to ear, baby... Here's what I really came here to say, though. She has been an absolute tank. Like I said earlier, I've had her for a year and have already put 20k on her, as she's my one and only and she has held up admirably. No... You know what? Using the word admirably doesn't do her, or her makers justice. She's lived up to the old adage; built Ford tough and then some. How many cars do you know of that can be a reliable daily driver AND lay down 12s at the track for this price? The only thing that has gone wrong during this first year/20k miles, was her TPS sensor. 50 bucks and 20 minutes of my time were the bottom line, there. No matter what I throw at her, work or play, she never complains. Daily commutes, playing around on the streets and even time at the drag strip have never cost me more than some preventive maintenance, some fuel, well lots of fuel but what did you expect? and some new tires. I will be changing her original cooling and heating hoses, as well as putting in some new spark plugs very soon, but all of that was to be expected. Better to be proactive as she ages. Buy with confidence, folks. But as always, do your research on each specific car before you buy. But hey, if you'll excuse me. I think I'll go for a drive.

My newest toy.

It`s a used Mustang GT convertible, whats not to like. It was in show room condition, low mileage at a price that didn`t break the bank. It`s my summer car. I have an suv for the winter. It`s no econo box, it`s a Mustang GT. I love it.

Not just another boring car

So you decide you want to get a new ride. There's so many choices out there...what do you pick? If your like me (an admitted car geek/enthusiast) not just any car will do. You want something sporty, great styling, decent mileage (MPG), good build quality and reliable. If you don't need four doors then look no further than the Ford Mustang. Ford Mustang you say? That's not a car for me! All I can tell you is I thought the very same way for nearly 15 years....then I gave one a chance and boy am I gald I did. Mine is a beautiful blue (vista blue) with camel color cloth interior, which is hands down the best looking interior I've ever seen in a mustang. Slide into the sculpted sport seats and you are hugged by nicely bolstered and cushioned surfaces. Adjust the power lumbar and power seat to achieve a good position. Set the power mirrors and buckle up. Press the firm clutch pedal to the floor turn the key and the 4.0L engine comes to life not with a roar but a soft purr. You are greeted with a full comliment of retro style dual pod tach and speedo gauges with the fuel, oil pressure, water temp, and battery charge level indicators between them. The Ford my color system allows you to customize the back lighting of this gauge pack to your liking. Options are red, pink, deep blue, light blue, green, purple and other colors in the spectrum. The trip computer also has nice real time MPG, fuel gallons used, range remaining and trip timers. Clutch take up is smooth and finding the right gears is easy on the 5 speed Tremec unit (the very same one found in the GT version) as it is not stiff to move the lever and the gating is easy to "feel" your way around. As you drive and accelerate through 1st, 2nd and 3rd you are pleasantly surprised by the torque of the engine and acceleration is surprisingly quick with the 3.31 final drive axle. You'll also notice the engine sounds wonderful! No it isn't that familiar burbling V8 sound (one of the best in the world by the way) but the 4.0L has its own throaty growl that is reminiscent of BMW and Jaguar sixies of days gone by. It really is a nice sounding engine and I find myself turning the radio down so I can enjoy it! Zero to sixty is easily achieved in around 6 seconds when you really open it up...which for 210 HP is darn respectable for a 3,300 lb car. I believe that the generous torque combined with a great transmission is a perfect recipie for this. Ford did a nice job with this car as it can handle agressive driving well and meager commuting at the same time with a good yet firm ride quality. I regularly get 25-28 MPG on my daily drive which is 45 miles of which about 65% highway travel. The shaker 500 stereo has good sound quality with plenty of audio adjustment and a decent (if a bit slow to operate) six disc in dash CD changer with MP3 capability. Loading a CD takes about 10 seconds, so figure a good minute or so to load up the magazine. I do not reccomend doing this at stoplights, but you may have time to exchange out and in one CD successfully. HVAC controls are simple and easy to manipulate and the AC and heat are strong. The car has good road manners with tight steering and a nice on center feel. Handling in the curves is actually very good considering the solid rear axle design. It can get a bit jerky on particularly bumpy and damaged pavement but hopefully you aren't driving in that sort of place too often. The four wheel disc brakes have good modulation with a firm pedal feel. Road noise while cruisng is louder than some cars but not intrusive and you can easily talk on your phone (hands free of course) or your passengers without needing to speak over it. Overall you just can't beat the Mustang for that killer exterior and nostalgic interior styling. Its a well built great car with good road manners and a torquey 4.0L yet fuel efficient engine that provides great sounds when you want to get aggressive. Try one out and you'll see there is lots to love about "not a GT".

Love my Mustang GT

Although my 2010 Dodge Challenger is the sweetest ride I've evr owned, I put it away into storage November 15th. I still had the itch for some horsepower and fun so I purchased a 2006 Ford Mustang GT. It is not the most HP in the Mustang line, but the 5 speed manual really goes in 3rd and 4th gear. And I am still driving it in Jan/Feb in Minnesota !!! I love it. It is brite red and Bullitt wheels. The wheels came with the deal. At 62 years old, should be in a minivan. No way.

Fun muscle car that rides on regular pump gas

I have to say this car is perfect. Great styling, enough room for my wife and daughter, and 305hp on regular pump gas. Another plus is it is cheap to maintain! Highly recommend!!!
