Buy it used
I bought the car new. Ive had it for 3 years. I have put 72000 miles on it. Mostly city miles. I think the its a cheaply made car. The plastic that holds the sun visor in place broke. The material on the shifter knob has fallen off. The material at the top of the steering wheel is shredding off. The driver seat is ripped down the middle because the threads that hold the leather together didn't hold up. Very reliable though. All I've replaced so far is tires and brakes. And the battery but that was under warranty. As far as performance i give it a 2. Its got good acceleration as long as the AC is off. I really notice a difference when there is extra weight in the car. Very smooth at high speeds except if you go past 100 then it starts floating. The car leans too much in corners and on windy roads. The seats are comfortable as long as you don't sit in them for too long. There is not enough room for your elbow when there is someone sitting in the passenger seat. The thing that makes me the most angry is the doors wont stay open when you are parked on any sort of an incline. I would not recommend buying this car brand new. The value depreciates way too fast. Buy this car used and save yourself 10000 dollars.

Nice Car, But Not Trouble Free
I bought this car right out of college when my old car died. I passed on any options and got an excellent deal. The standard features are great. I've grown to accept the soft handling and appreciate the smooth, quiet ride that comes in return. I also very much appreciate the quality and appearance of the dashboard and driver controls. This car really offers a lot for the money. Power is good for this class, although the engine does sound coarse and booming approaching 4000rpm. I average about 31mpg in mixed driving. Now the bad stuff: The clutch started slipping at around 32K, was not covered under the much advertised warranty and cost me $1000 to replace. The hood began to rust at the leading edge near the latch mechanism. That was replaced under warranty. The power mirror switch began to act up and was replaced under warranty. The replacement also began to act up but I just live with it. Finally, the oxygen sensor failed and was replaced, also under warranty. After all that, I still like this car. However I will probably trade it in sooner rather than later, rather than wait and see what other issues crop up.

One of the Best I've Ever Owned
Bought this GT hatchback new in 2005, I've driven this car just over 80,000 miles. The car is still tight with no rattles, squeeks or leaks. Other than a bad 2nd gear synchronizer and a faulty power mirror switch (both covered under warranty) this car has been virtually trouble free. Despite the repeated salt baths cars receive here in upstate NY, the body remains rust free. Gas mileage continues to average 30.8 MPG in mixed city/hwy driving. Leather seating surfaces and interior remain like new. Seats still provide excellent support even after several hours of driving. Many cars that I've previously owned have shown shown many more problems by this point in their lives, including A/C, PS & oil leaks. No such problems with this car. Remains an excellent value.

I Love My Elantra
I bought my Elantra out of the Hertz rental fleet. Fit and finish are par with Toyota. The interior compares favorably with my wife's Camry. Handling is "sound" but not exciting. It's a real "bang for the buck" car.

Good car for the price!
Awesome choice for a mature adult who won't trash it. As a college student, my vehicle brokedown and I thought I was doomed, but I went to Hyundai for a weekend sale and bought my first new car and I'm still loving it. I can afford it, and I no longer have to worry about my car breaking down with the warranty covering everything.

Great bang for the buck
I have owned this Elantra from new, and its been a great car so far. The pros: It is great on gas, never given me a problem, and is easy to drive. The cons: The clock inside is cheap. I mean digital watch from 6th grade cheap (you'll know what I mean when you see it). When The AC is on there is NO power (The engine just gets loader, and nothing happens). The car looks like a cross between a Daewoo and a Kia with sculliousis (forget about impressing anyone with this) Overall: The gas mileage is great, it will fit all your friends, and get you were you need to go cheap. It is, what it is... It is a Hyundai.

Love it! I am happy with Hyundai.
I bought the Elantra based on it's warantee and have loved ever since. problem is, I never used the warantee because nothing ever goes wrong! I like the styling and decent gas milage, about 32 MPG with little city driving. Plenty of room for me at 6'3". Trunk and back seats are spacious. I now have over 40k on it and runs like new. I did need to replace the tires, but partialy my fault for not rotating them. Other than that no complaints except for the tape player, which is antique. I replaced it with a CD changer and new speakers. I own a Santa Fe too, both cars run flawlessly!

I'm Glad I Bought My Elantra
I purchased my Elantra GT G-Speed in April of 2005. It now has 66000 miles on it as of October of 2007 and still drives like new. I have performed no maintenance on it other than standard oil changes. I use Mobil 5-30 Synthetic and Hyundai filters every 6000 miles. I get about 36 mpg on the highway and about 30 in the city. I've had the mgp stretch 37+ on long hauls at about 70 mph for hours on end in mild weather. I also put a bottle of STP concentrated fuel system cleaner in every 15K miles or so. My friends are always super impressed about its ability to go nearly 500 miles on one tank of gas. The Michelin tires have worn extremely well. I've rotated them every 10K miles or so. I think I'll get 80000 miles out of them and will replace them with the same model michelins. It dogs a little bit in city driving with the A/C on, but I expect that from a 4 cylinder. I didn't buy it expecting to hod rod it or beat anyone in a race. It just doesn't have the torque of a V-motor- no biggie- I just turn the A/C off sometimes when leaving stoplights. I loved all the features I was getting when I bought the car, and I still enjoy them. It handles well in snow...it's light and agile in turns. I've got a little paint peeling off my front bumper and I'm going to talk to the dealer about the 3 year paint warranty, but I think I'm over-mileage for that.. I bought the car for a long commute and busy, on-the-go lifestyle and the car has performed literally perfectly. O, and it doesn't burn or leak one bit of oil-EVER, even at 6000 miles oil change intervals.

Running the wheels off it
I bought this specifically to drive 156 miles each day for my commute. I've had it for under 2.5 years and it just passed 100,000 miles. All in all it's been a great little car, and I do prefer it to my father's 06 Corolla. This car has gotten me back and forth to work in ALL weather conditions ranging from blizzards and -30F temps to tornadic activity and temps reaching over 100F. It handles the snow/ice extremely well with good winter tires, but overall I'm only seeing about 30-31 mpg and I drive at about 75-80 mph. Would've been nice if they'd have brought down the rpm's at cruise. 3250 rpm's is just a little higher than I'd like, and burns a little more gas than necessary. The couple of times I've had it in the shop have only been for minor things (use the warranty, that's what it's there for), and except for poor service at the local dealer, no complaints. I decided to disregard the timing belt replacement at 60K miles because of the easy miles I put on it, and two days ago replaced the belt at 100K. It still looked new, no cracks, hardly any wear at all, and the mechanic was even impressed with how easy it was to replace. Anyway, have been really pleased and would recommend this car to anyone, just too bad they increased the price so much on the newer models.

Pretty good car!
I have owned my Elantra since new, and overall it has been a pretty good car. Gas mileage is quite good, it's comfortable on long hauls, and I haven't had any maintenance issues except for a passenger airbag recall. I really wish I'd have waited until the 2007 came out though, those look very nice! But if you are in the market for a used car, you can't go wrong with a 2005 Hyundai Elantra.
