Extremely low gas mileage

I have a 2012 Elantra with 3000 miles on it. I am only getting 16 to 18 mpg city. The dealership claims it is operating as designed. The Hyundai corporation does not back up their cars in regards to mileage. Make sure to check the individual car's mileage before buying this car!

Tires, tires & tires

Great car and am really impressed with everything my my 2012 limited has a lot to offer. Would have paid $5000.00 more to get a similiary equipped Accord or Camry. Now about the O.E tires. Don't settle for them. Check out the Tirerack web site to determine how well the tires on the car that you are about the purchase are rated by consumers. My guess is that they are poorly rated. I did this and was able to swap the Hanhook tires for Michelin Primacy MXM4 and only paid the difference between the O.E tires and the clearly superior Michelin's. About $50.00 per tire. And the dealership found the tires and installed them before I took possession of my new car. Great tires will help to lessen somewhat the road noise that some have referred to. Overall at only 1,000 miles of driving I am really impressed

2012 Limited Elantra

Purchased 02/16/2012 so still getting use to the performance of the car. Ours is Desert Bronze with Beige interior. Love the color combination. The layout inside is very ergonomically friendly and the different finishes in side are very up scale. I'm 6'3" and am very comfortable in the front and rear seat. The steering wheel has manual tilt and telescopic. Lots of electronic goodies, Bluetooth, i-pod, built in XM. Have already had several compliments on the exterior design. We traded in our 02 Santa Fe after 106000 and feel very confident that this Elantra that advertises 29/40 mph will deliver many carefree miles. For less then $21,000 its a deal.

2012 Hyundai Elantra

I rented a 2012 Hyundai Elantra with 17,000 miles on it from Feb 10 thru Feb 15, 2012. The first day I drove it on the highway for 340 miles to the city of Olympia so about six hours of driving. This car looks great and got excellent gas mileage but was not a comfortable car to drive for several hours. I am 5'7" and 140 lbs - maybe a little small for the typical American male. I found that if I hugged the steering wheel I could drive the car without neck and shoulder pain. The view through the windshield is excellent (even in a normal sitting position) however the frame between the windshield and door window gets in the way in city driving and in my opinion this serously jeopardizes safety. The cabin temperature guage, cruise controls and stereo knobs are placed in just the right spot and are totally easy to use. However, this is not a quiet car on the highway. It may be the tires but road noise verges on extreme. In the city the car hesitates when pressing on the gas pedal from a stop and then lunges forward. I never did get used to that even after three days of city driving. To me this car apears small from the outside but three adults and two small children can ride in this car for short distances in comfort. The suspension is excellent on bumpy city roads. The car seems to have plenty of power and the brakes feel reliable and solid. The seat belts don't get in the way and are easy to use. On long highway driving the car drifts to one side or the other and you never know when this is going to happen so you have to concentrate on driving the car or you may quickly find yourself halfway into the lane next to you. I found this to be a major flaw and especially dangerous during nighttime driving in wet weather. The view out the back window seems adequate. It has a huge trunk for the size of car. The turning radius is wonderful. You can actually turn the car around on a rural/country road without a shoulder - I thought that was pretty nifty.

New Hyundai

This is just a wonderful car. My only regret is not buying one sooner. It handles beautifully and came with great standard features.

Excellent handling

This car rides exceptionally well for a small car. The ride is also very good for the car's wheelbase and weight. The best part of driving this car is the handling which is almost up to German standards. The only disappointment is that the mileage is no way near what the sticker suggests.

Very good car!!!

The car has a sports car ride..very peppy for a 1.8L. The manual transmission is very smooth..plenty of head room and the seats are wide enough for my delicate bottom..I'm 6' 300 lbs and I was surprised at the car's comfort. Gas mileage is great..38 - 42 mpg depending on speed driven and use of A/C...We got a great price and with the additional warranty ( 100K front to back, inside out). Plenty of safety features and the dash is well positioned for easy reading. We have been driving the car for a month on Louisiana roads and are very impressed with the ride. The steering is very repsonsive, more so than any thing I have driven in a long time...I would have liked to buy the Sonata,,just for the added comfort, but this is my wife's car and she was sold on the Elantra...a happy wife is a happy home..all's well that ends well!!

2012 Car of the Year

This is my second Hyundai purchase in one year. My first was a 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE, which me and my wife fight over to see who gets to drive it next. Love the Elantra for stying, tech package and price for what you get. I was looking for a commuter car that would be good on gas, comfortable and have the tech to keep me entertained while driving. It does all three. My driving is primarily 20% cit and 80% highway and I am averaging 33-35 mpg combined. Highway only I recently averaged 37-38.5. Love the heated seats, map, bluetooth and overall exterior and interior. The steering can be a bit less sensitive as it is hard to get a feel for the road. Car has good excelleration for a high MPG car. I was a Honda buyer the last 10 years who is now a Hyundau buyer.

Great little car

Well built and comfortable. Suprizingly large interor. After 3500 miles I'm a little disapointed with hwy and total fuel economy. Averages about 32 MPG combined driving.

Excellent Value

Very nice car for the money. Handles well, although suspension isn't quite there yet. Super transmission...smooth, efficient, quiet. Excellent instruments and controls. Bluetooth much better than on my Toyota. Get lots of compliments. Backup camera needed as rear visibility is poor. Love heated seats on cool mornings. Gas mileage not up to EPA estimates. Not bad but not great either. Everything works. Good engineering/design.
