Great car except for one very important thing ...

... the in-town gas mileage is just awful! We are getting 13.5-14.5 mpg with the A/C running! Pre-A/C we were getting ~17 mpg. Highway mpg is okay, but we don't drive on the highway much, just around town about 400 miles a month. Is anyone else having this problem? Otherwise I really like the car. It has plenty of front leg room, the most we could find on the market, and rear as well. But really not happy with the lack of fuel efficiency. My old Camry - with 177,000 miles on it - got 22 in town and generally around 35 on the highway. I kind of miss it. :(

Excellent car for my money

I got this car 3 months ago, I'm extremely happy, fuel economy is excellent, handling is very good. Add to this the "bumper-to-bumper" warranty and the 5 years of free oil changes, I can't be wrong with this purchase, I've own Hyundais before, a '92 Sonata we drove over 350,000 kms, and a '91 Excel. For sure quality has improved a great deal in the last 15 years. Exterior styling is a little bit generic but a like the clean lines, the interior is very well designed, and the safety features paired with ABS brakes are excellent. The ride is very quiet and the stereo delivers a good sound specially when playing mp3 files and XM satellite radio. The trunk space is very generous, enough to carry a full set of bags when traveling. Since I got the car in this spring, I don't have a report on its performance on our harsh Canadian winters.

Good For the Money, But

The car is good for the money. Time will tell how good the relaibilty is with the new automated manufacturing plant, and how well the new V6 powertrain is in the long haul. The 17" wheel tire combo is a nice mix of comfort and handling. With the V6 chirping the tires is very easy, and overall operation is quiet. My only gripes are my model has audio controls but only for volume, so you still have to take a hand off the wheel to change tracks. Also with this V6 and other newer V6 engines you have to pay $20 extra at the dealer to have you oil changed. Overall a good car for the money but time and numbers will tell how well hyundai have done with this redesign and most importantly the reliabilty. Nobody wants a car that has good looks and value to find out they'll have to spend big dough in the future to keep it going.

Forget the Competition

Reasons to purchase an 07 Sonata: - Powerful and responsive 4 cylinder - Amazing stadnard features: Cruise, traction & stability, front-side-curtain airbags to name a few. - Dirt cheap; thousands less than Camry and Accord - As good as Camry and Accord: don't be fooled - Comfortable and lush interior. - Warranty If you're looking for a car in this segment, you can't pass it up!

A Very Pleasant Surprise

I have owned 2 Camrys before the Sonata I bought just a few weeks ago. I test drove 8 different cars including the Camry Hybrid, Honda Accord, Saturn Aura, Chrysler Sebring etc. This is the best car of all - I have already put 3600kms on it driving to the South and back. It drives over snowy roads with nary a complaint, what with the ECS feature kicking in. The extra luxury features of leather upholstery, heated front seats, XM satellite radio, auto dimming rear view mirror, and automatic climate control made driving a real pleasure. And for thousands less than a comparable Camry. I had never thought I would own a Hyundai but this has changed my mind. Excellent excellent car....I am very pleased and most surprised at the quality of the cars that Hyundai now makes. I even bought the corrosion module to save from oil rust proofing, and it comes with a package of free oil changes for the next 5 years...well, that is just icing on the cake!

Most car for the money

This is the new Hyundai generation. We purchased it couple months ago, and we now understand why the professionals claim it to be a real contender for the Camry/Accord... This is one great buy for the money. We shoped around, test drove the Camry, Accord, Mazda 6, and the new Ford Fusion... All great cars... We found the Sonata to be MUCH less expensive than most its rivals, yet you get MORE, and especially more safety features -- standard. The ESC (Electronic Stability Control) is one of them (not even available as an option in many other cars) which you would appreciate most when you get into trouble...
