Weak...NOT Cool!
The brand new 2007 Jeep Compass I recently purchased has had problems since the day I drove it off the lot. One major problem was with the tire pressure monitoring system which took multiple attempts to repair, including a call to the Chrysler engineer that actually developed the system. Another defect was with the coil spring in the steering wheel column, which is the device that deploys the driver's side airbag & has been rattling incessantly before & after attempting to repair it. Now I'm uncomfortable driving it b/c I'm fearful that a malfunction within the airbag system might occur. There've also been minor problems such as small rubber stoppers falling out of the sunroof & connectors in the volume controls actually coming disconnected. It looks cool but definately is not worth it!!!

Comfortable and safe
The Jeep compass is a great value! It is the safest suv out there, and it handles real well. The interior is great with the different colors, and ipod dock station/plug. there is also a 15v plug for anything you could imagine. there is also a flashlight in the back that comes out and charges at all times. This vehicle is classy, and modern for today's drivers.

More than I expected for the price
The Compass is a compromise that works. It isn't perfect; but what is? I have put it through a tough driving test. I have driven off road and while the Compass won't climb steps or drive through 13 inches of water, it will perform well over rough roads with steep inclines, steep cut backs as well as 6 inches of water with ease. This is a Jeep no matter what the truck dudes say.

Where is the Jeep?
If this was a review about the Dodge Caliber, I would probably say it was OK, but it isn't. This thing has the name Jeep on the front, a name that it really does not live up to. So, I will review it as a Jeep. Starting with the suspension, the fully independent suspension front and rear is more indicative of Honda civics, Toyota Carollas, and any manner of ROAD going vehicle. This suspension does not lend itself to easy modification for off road use, if at all. The heart of many Jeeps, pre Daimler Chrysler, of course, has always been rugged off road ability, a trait that fewer NEW Jeeps have. The Compass has basically NO off road ability. The Compass was basically designed off of a platform that was supposed to replace the Dodge Neon, basically an AWD car. The 4x4 logo on the back of many Compasses is very misleading, more of a marketing scheme than anything else. You would probably be better off buying a used Cherokee XJ with a 4.0 I6. The Cherokee was a REAL Jeep replaced by a semi non Jeep, the Liberty. The Compass has shown the Jeep community where Daimler Chrysler wants to take the Jeep name, and it looks like they only want to take it to paved roads.

This is an okay car, but it needs a quality touch.
This car looks very cool on the outside - lots of thought put into exterior design; and it drives and handles okay. There is almost no body roll. I would not suggest getting the CVT transmission because it is hard to get used to, and just isn't worth the $1000. Also, the headrests aren't very comfortable, and the interior looks and feels cheap. This car starts at only $15,985 which isn't a bad deal. But, I'd rather they raise the price and make the interior quality and finish better. Overall, this is an okay car, and it's definitely a step up from the Caliber, but it needs some work. (This review is only based on a test drive.)

Jeep's Worst Effort
Worst Car of the Year, 2006. With the retro bad looks of the Gremlin (check that C-pillar!) and the poorly conceived and constructed (even the Saturn Ion is built better) interior, this car deserves to fail. Every other small SUV on the market is better than this one, including the formally last-place Saturn Ion. Do your shopping and test drives, be wise and shop elsewhere.
