I wish all of the early build 2014 JGC buyers would post updates after their issues were cleared up. I suppose you don't have anything to post about if you aren't complaining. I bought my 2014 JGC Altitude (V6, 4x4, black on black on black, May 2014 build date) last week, and the first 500 miles have been stellar. This is my first SUV in about 15 years, and in that time I have purchased and driven a number of Audi and BMW sedans. I got this because I needed a change, and wanted something that could handle whatever life might throw at me over the next 5 years. I was a little nervous about the transmission/electrical problems that some people have complained about. I think the most important realization that I came to was that Jeep is selling 18,000 of the JGC per MONTH, and so the problems on the reviews are therefore blown way out of proportion, especially if you think that someone who got a bad one is probably likely to post their problem in a number of discussion forums and reviews. The problems seems to be mostly software related rather than hardware. So here is my take.... I have avoided SUVs in general because I felt they were slow, cumbersome, inefficient, and unrefined in terms of interior quality, ride, and handling. While no SUV will match a nice German sedan in these areas, I am happy to say that this JGC beats the other German, Japanese, and American SUVs on the market that I tested (Q5, Q7, X3, X5, 4Runner, Explorer). The updates to the interior and the infotainment center really hammer the point home that this JGC is setting the standard for all other SUVs in the world. The only thing I worry about is that if I do need service in the future, the Jeep dealers don't seem to offer a lot in the way of a loaner fleet, so I have to plan my life around that a little bit.

This is my 3rd JGC I've owned, and by far the worst!! I bought the new 2014 Limited, and have had it back to the dealer 5 times. Drive shaft bearings went out (dealer replaced entire shaft), keep getting error on NAV system, clock freezes up, cannot use the Uconnect system at all, will not load apps, and my biggest issue since I drove it home is the vibration. It vibrates at 75 (steering wheel and seats shake), and so far they have not fixed it. At this very moment, the dealer still has the vehicle. They tried to tell me it's the system that shuts down the other 4 cylinders that causes the vibration, so if that's the case, who would want to pay 40K for a SUV that vibrates?? There's clearing several engineering glitches with this model. Sad part is, the dealer only started working with me once I opened a case with Chrysler. If you're looking at the new Grand Cherokee as a possible SUV, keep looking!! I'm so unhappy with this thing it makes me sick!

I was deciding between the Jeep GC Limited, Ford Explorer or Accura RDX and settled on the jeep after reading all the expert reviews. While i love the look and feel of the car and the driving experience, I too have had numerous trips to the shop like others have mentioned. Within the first 3,000 miles the water pump needed to be replaced! Dealer said "parts sometimes break". I just got the car back after taking it in for the Uconnect system as I keep getting a "phone service" alert. So far, not fixed. Now the radiator is leaking and the service supervisor said that he has seen a number of these on the 2014 GC... I really want to like this vehicle but am starting to have my doubts. I had a Dodge Ram truck for 3 years and never had it in the shop so I thought Chrysler had come a long way on the quality front. Now I am not so sure...

This is an almost home run with the turbo diesel. Plenty of power, great features, and the best nav & controls I've seen. BUT, we just did our first trip towing our boat (5000 pounds total w trailer). The torque is amazing but going up hills it will overheat if you don't slow down or turn off the AC. The cooling system is woefully inadequate. Did anyone not test this in California? It was only 85 degrees and still would have gone into the red if I hadn't slowed. You want to downshift but higher revs makes it run hotter. I've done the same route to Lake Mead and Lake Powell along I-15 when its 112 out. I still need to discuss with the dealer and then Chrysler to see a fix.

Wife won't let me drive it

I am on my 5th Jeep,(SUV types), my wife's daughter on number 3(Wrangler type)Wife is a car snob and considered Jeeps "bouncy trucks". It was her decision to buy a fully loaded Equinox but I asked her to at least take a look at a comparably equipped and priced Jeep. She dragged herself to a dealer and came home that day with a Grand Cherokee Ltd that she says she ":loves", It has the utility and reliability which has me hooked on the brand. She is hooked on the styling, comfort, ride and "gadgets". .Interior appointments are plush without being tacky,,,leather, heated steering wheel, seats, electronic center with blue tooth, GPS, and yes, even Wi-Fi access.. Sirius radio, rear camera that I even like. (I am not a gadget nut.) Interior/exterior very up to date and stylish and comparable to vehicles costing $20-30,000 more.. Gadgets are voice command so hands free texting and phone, but even changes radio stations and A/C settings. She can lock the car from 1000 miles away by cell phone in case she didn't know if she remembered to do it at the mall or the airport. We are relocating from Florida to Nevada and this is great for the long trips and city driving she does. It has 2 wheel drive and a surprisingly smooth shifting automatic transmission. Mileage is about what to expect.....17ish around town, 20ish depending on driving style. v6 engine is adequate for it's intended purpose.,High ground clearance and probably good off road but I don't think my wife will allow this to happen. As a long time Jeep owner I rate this as a very good vehicle. And that from a 70 year old that's partial to roll-up windows and a hand-held GPS! My only concern with the new Cherokee might be about the dependability of all the electronics as they age but no failures in any departments such as fit and finish. If it's electronics are still working when I get another 150,000. on my jeep I might even get a fancy model like hers, but trai8l rated model. Look out then , Wiley Coyote! !beep beep .

Love the new Jeep but have a few concerns about the service on it already. We had some free play in the steering wheel and took it in to be fixed, turns out there was some loose bolts :( They also did an update on the nav/seterio unit and it hasn't worked right since, now they are wanting us to bring it back in for another check up, we have only driven the car less than 1,000 miles with two trips in to have things fixed already. They do offer a lifetime warranty if you have time to bring the car in on a regular basis. A little bummed hope this doesn't continue as we accually use the car.
