Love the mix
I love the mix of luxury and frugality. It is a very comfortable car with lots of amenities. Kia does have a bit of a problem finding issues when you report it though. I had a steering issue that when you are driving at highway speeds the steering would stick and then let go and become very easy. They did fix it by replacing the electric steering controller and the electric pump.

2012 Kia Optima hybrid
Have trouble with it bogging down. Start to pull out and no power. Then we were on a trip just got off interstate when code said check brake no power motor still running coasted off to side of road. Then code said check hybrid brake stripe had to have towed. towed to a Kia dealer they had to call main Kia to find out what to do. We had an extended warenty they sent a representative to see if covered. He said wait for it to happen again. Does that mean it cuts out with no power because brake thinks it's on. And next time we may not be so lucky .

Best Hybrid Cars I've seen and has so far....
Best car for its value. I don't think you will ever find another car comparable to this car from other companies that offers the same services and warranties as this car. The hybrid technology in this car helped save a lot of money for me and I have not seen any hinderance in performance since the time i first got it. The standard technology that comes with this car is worth it. I'm surprised to see that other car companies don't offer some of the equipment as standard features in their cars and for us to get the same standard features that KIA offers from other companies, we have to spend a lot more. I enjoy driving this car and all I've done so far is fill gas and done the regular maintenance. It drives smooth, looks sporty, performs really well and cheap to maintain. You won't regret buying this car.

Great car
Great car mechanically, a little lag when you "punch" it, but gets up to speed very quickly when passing. We did have the opportunity to drive it well over 100 mph across the salt flats, and the ride was smooth as glass, effortless, much better then my BMW 318 was on the autobahn. We have never had a mechanical problem, well over 90,000 miles. The body is another matter. The front of the car leaves a LOT to be desired. The front clip has had to be replaced when hitting something as small as a cat (we live in a small town and commute 20 miles to work) We are on #5. The down side (in my opinion) to the interior is the placement of the front speakers, right where my knee rests agains the door, and I am not all that happy about sitting in the cockpit of a fighter aircraft (I worked on F16's for 16 yrs). The back seat has loads of leg room, and if it wasn't in the back seat I would sit there instead.

Great Look, Horrible MPG for a Hybrid
This car looks sharp. The styling inside and out is excellent. Overall, the quality of the car is also excellent. I have had the car for 5 years and have not had any mechanical problems with it. For a hybrid, however, the gas mileage is horrible. I average 18 MPG in city driving, and am lucky to get in the high 20s (say, 27, 28 MPG) on the highway. I once asked the dealership if there were any adjustments to be made and they said no, it's all pre-programmed and controlled by the computer. So, I am not impressed with Kia's hybrid technology, for sure. I would not recommend this car in the hybrid model, but definitely for the styling, get the non-hybrid car.

Hybrid Nightmare
2012 Kia Optima Hybrid I have owned this car for 5 years, Dealer serviced regularly. Nothing but problems DANGEROUS steering issues over and over, Water pump, Upper lower ball joints, New steering column many many issues. They replace the water pump and used the old belt then tell me service is required and water pump belt needs replaced. Why not replace when you replaced the water pump? Seems like just a way to get another service charge out of me. Car just turned 50000 miles and has been in the shop over 15 times. Not a purchase I'm happy I made, Lies about fuel economy, shoddy quality in my opinion seem to be Kia and Hyundai?s business model

Car has broken down twice
I am a teenager and this is my parents' car that they bought for me and my brother to share, so I really don't have a right to complain; however, I shall. First off, I pay for my own gas, and it is difficult to keep the gas mileage over about 27 mpg. My brother is a lead food, and gets about 23. Right now, I am getting about 34 which is quite good, but that comes with mighty effort. Secondly, it is sluggish. I must turn traction control off for it to respond in due time. If there is need to move quickly, I can floor the car and it won't respond for a good three seconds which can be quite scary. I have also been stranded twice by the car. Luckily I have roadside assistance, and the transmission has been under warranty both times. What inspired this review is that now, it is driving funny once again like it did before it broke down the two other times, and my only theory is that something in its computer systems puts some unwarranted stress on the transmission or something. Lastly, the headlights are so dim it's like I'm driving with two candles in front of my car, the radio is quite fuzzy and the stereo is not that good when using AUX or bluetooth. On the plus side, it is a good looking car and the steering and brakes are amazing. Now, I know that teens are supposed to have clunkers, but it is technically my parents' car that they so graciously let me use. Therefore, I am holding it up to the standards of a family car that is expected to be reliable especially given its age.

2012 kia optima hybrid
This car is comfortable for me, I am 6'5" and need leg room and ceiling room. I can even sit in the back. The car has good acceleration and handling, necessary for California traffic and high freeway speeds in the south. Mileage is not as good as friends new Toyota hybrid, but my kia handles better and is much more comfortable. Other hybrids we have driven are smaller and low on power, especially with more than 2 people in the car. We had 4 of us with luggage and the kia ran great.

Inherent Flaw
We loved this car at first - great styling, comfortable, etc. But at about 35,000 miles we started getting "hybrid system warning" messages and "check charging system" messages - instructing us to stop driving the car. The dealer has been unable to solve this problem - the 4th time the car was there they replaced the entire transmission (1 1/2 months ago). And just the other day, we had this problem again. We believe that there is an inherent flaw in this car. If you google it, other people have the same experience with this car.
