2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport review: Our expert's take

What Is the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The Land Rover Discovery Sport compact luxury SUV debuted for 2015 as a replacement for the LR2 in the automaker’s lineup. It has standard seating for five, but an optional two-seat third row transforms it into a seven-seat SUV.

Power is supplied by a 246-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive is standard. Competitors include the Acura RDX, BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

What’s New on the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

A new Pivi Pro multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity is standard, and the system supports over-the-air software updates. A 360-degree camera system is also standard.

What Features in the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport Are Most Important?

Standard features include:

  • LED headlights
  • Heated, power-folding side mirrors
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Dual-zone air conditioning
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Available features include:

  • Panoramic moonroof
  • Power liftgate
  • Heated windshield
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Wireless device charging
  • Head-up display
  • Blind spot warning
  • Adaptive cruise control

2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport Vs. 2021 Acura RDX: How Do They Compare?

The Discovery Sport’s available third row is something you can’t get in an RDX, even if it isn’t very spacious. Both luxury SUVs include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The RDX has sporty handling and quick acceleration as well as excellent crash ratings. We’re not fans of the multimedia interface in the RDX, however.

Should I Buy the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The Discovery Sport should meet the needs of small families or other buyers looking for a premium SUV with some off-road capability. The interior is luxurious and well-appointed with plenty of room for five. But space is very limited in the optional third row, which is useful only for children.

Engineers Dream

Bought this for my wife, it is a solidly built vehicle that handles and rides great. Very impressive details around the engineering of the chassis. Standard Vehicles have trim thats for looks to enhance the beauty of the vehicle, The Land Rover Discovery Sport has similar markings but most are functional items. The square rectangles in the bumpers provide Cover for access to the car frame where you attach a bar that can be used toPul the car out of a ditch or sand, but since it weighs 6000 lbs, and is all wheel drive, it would be used for pulling other cars out of ditches. The hood has a raised section that opens to the windshield, it is actually a raised Air intake to reduce the change of the vehicle being damaged if having to drive threw water (2'6" is what it is rated to be able to operate in) The doors and hatch are solid and you can fell that when you close the doors as they are sealed very well. My only issue is I can't afford a Range Rover too...

Love it!

I grew up driving only Fords as my dad was an executive and have had 2 expeditions, a navigator and a xc90 and ml350. Those were all amazing car and much bigger but I bought my first car 2 days ago because I needed a change and was tired of driving a huge suv around with my 2 kids. I’m still getting used to the interior so that’s why I gave it 4 stars. It seems to be a quality vehicle so far and I love it! Perfect for myself and 7 & 9 year old daughters with a good size trunk. The warranty goes until 2024 and it’s certified until 2025 so I feel confident that this was a smart buy. The Land Rover Jaguar Lakeside dealership (Derek) went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied.
