What Is the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The Land Rover Discovery Sport compact luxury SUV debuted for 2015 as a replacement for the LR2 in the automaker’s lineup. It has standard seating for five, but an optional two-seat third row transforms it into a seven-seat SUV.

Power is supplied by a 246-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine or a new-for-2020 mild-hybrid four-cylinder drivetrain that makes 286 hp. Both drivetrains pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission, and four-wheel drive is standard. Competitors include the Acura RDX, BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

What’s New on the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The standard turbocharged gas 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine gets a slight power increase to 246 hp, while a new R-Dynamic HSE trim gets a mild-hybrid version of the same engine that’s good for 286 hp.

Styling changes include new front and rear bumpers, an updated grille and full-LED lighting. All trims also get an updated interior with available Luxtex sustainable fabric. Wireless phone charging and a 4G Wi-Fi hot spot are available. A new front camera system uses the center display to provide a better view ahead while off-roading, and a new rear camera paired with the rearview mirror gives drivers a clear view of the rear when visibility is hampered by passengers or cargo.

What Features in the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport Are Most Important?

Standard features include dual-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, rain-sensing windshield wipers and power-folding heated side mirrors. Available features include a panoramic moonroof, a hands-free power liftgate, navigation and a Meridian premium stereo.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport Vs. 2020 Acura RDX: How Do They Compare?

The Discovery Sport upped the luxury ante for 2020 with updated styling and new features. It is also available with a third row, even if it isn’t very spacious. That’s something you can’t get in an RDX. While Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity are both offered in the Discovery Sport, only CarPlay is offered in the RDX. The RDX has sporty handling and quick acceleration as well as excellent crash ratings. We’re not big fans of the multimedia interfaces in either SUV, but the Discovery Sport at least offers a touchscreen.

Should I Buy the 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport?

The Discovery Sport should meet the needs of small families or other buyers looking for a premium SUV with some off-road capability. The interior is luxurious and well-appointed, with plenty of room for five. But space is very limited in the optional third row, which is useful only for children.

  • Be careful

Bought the Discovery Sport brand new, has been nothing but disappointment. Engine light comes on frequently, difficulty to get to speed brought back to dealership, they continue to patch it up and the same issues come back. Two years later vehicle still not repaired. Land Rover customer service for issues at hand is no where near luxury.

  • Phenomenal

It was time for a new lease. They took care of me the first time, so I went back to Taga at Wilde again and somehow managed to get an even better deal. Top notch beginning to end. I don’t like car buying like most people but everyone was as helpful as could be, thanks!

  • My first Land Rover and I love it

Loving my Land Rover Discovery Sport! It was important for me to have a car with great safety and convenience features and this car delivers with the parking sensors, back up camera, lane assist and blind spot monitoring. This car drives like a dream and has different driving modes to accommodate all road and off-road conditions. Of course it has other great features like an amazing sound system, beautiful leather seats and easy to use interface and much more! Oh and this car is super sleek and sporty! Definitely recommend this car!

  • Loving my Land Rover Discovery Sport R-Dynamic

The exterior is what attracted me to the vehicle and the interior close the deal. It has a lot of amazing features. The only shortfall is that the glass ceiling is not one that opens as a moonroof normally does, but it's always hot or rainy in Florida so seeing out of the roof is enough for me. I'm really loving how the vehicle grips the road, is fast, stylish, and has some really great tech for those into that sort of thing.

  • Wish I’d waited to see what was NOT on the car

So many amenities that the car lacks from what we were told would be on it. So disappointed I’m in the lease for 36 months

  • So lovely

It’s too soon to call it the most reliable car I’ve ever owned but I love to drive it. It’s such a smooth ride and my kids are safe and comfortable. I find that the auto engine off feature can be a little annoying and I find the seats to be a little uncomfortable for me. Nothing a seat cover or pillow can’t fix.

  • Land Rover Sport PHEV

A total disgrace. I have had this car for 4 months now and has been in the shop 3 times. This most recent visit is now 6 weeks...and will be at least another week for sure. Nobody knows how to repair it. There are no parts available, and the dealer doesn't care. It is borderline fraud that they even sell it.
