One of the Best

I purchased my 2006 Lexus RX400h with 48,000 miles on it, 3 years ago. The only negative with this vehicle has been the high cost of maintenance...oil changes range from $89-125 at the dealership, other than that, the vehicle is great! The only mechanical issue I've encountered since I've owned the vehicle was a recall issue that caused the the power steering not to work. (fixed free of charge by Lexus) I had the timing belt changed at 100,000 miles and ...other than that, it's been extremely reliable. The power and performance is fantastic. For a luxury SUV, the gas mileage was heads and shoulders above most at 22/27 MPG and it uses regular gasoline, which is a plus in this economy. I have 116, 000 miles on my Lexus and it still performs with the same power, as the day I purchased it! This vehicle is a very good value for the money!

My first Hybrid

Overall, an outstanding car. Mark Levinson sound is astoundingly good, especially with DVD movie. Road noise is higher than expected, but somewhat improved after the original tires wore out and were replaced with Kumhos. For a city dweller, the economy advantage will easily reduce your fuel bill by half. For someone driving on country roads, it may reduce it by a quarter compared to a comparable SUV. Mine was reliable except for a steering rack that required replacing at 70K miles. It was done under warranty. I would definitely recommend this car over all other SUVs, including the 3rd generation RX450h.

My Only Choice - Safe SUV that gets 25+ MPG

I bought a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) 2006 Lexus RX 400h AWD for my wife because we just had a baby and we wanted a safe SUV with side impact airbags that could get 25+ MPG and has a power lift gate. The 400h is the only SUV that meets all of those criteria. A Hybrid requires you to drive more conservatively in order to obtain the fuel economy states. It?s not all bad, I find myself playing a game to get the best MPG as possible. We have had the 2006 400h for 5 months now and we LOVE it. My wife is averaging 25.2 MPG with 50/50 (Hwy/City) driving. Compare to her last SUV that got 17 MPG she is saving $800 a year on fuel since she drives 12k-15k a year. Sometimes she is able to get over 30 MPG with the 400h when driving around town. We absolutely love the 400h and really enjoy driving it. There is only one thing Lexus forgot to put a ?distance to empty? on the computer. A few things to consider when buying a 400h. Each year has some subtle differences. 2006 models have no ?Hybrid? badges on the side, the Navigation/Computer is Gen 4 (older) and my favorite is the Aluminum trim (no out dated faux wood on the center console, doors and steering wheel). Most 2006 400h?s are all wheels drive (AWD) with Nav; FWD and non-Nav was not offered as an option until late in the 2006 model year. 2007-2008 400h?s are the same with the exception that the 2008 models have electric blue outline in the rear Lexus badge and the front headlights have a blue tint to them. Both 2007-2008 400h?s have Gen 5 Nav, FWD and Nav are optional. More exterior color choices were offered on the 2008 model. One important thing to have the dealer do before completing the deal on a 2006 400h is Technical Service Info Bulletin (TSIB) EG010_05. This effects fuel economy, before we had this performed we only received 18-21 MPG, now we get 25+ MPG. Most dealer?s have NOT heard of this TSIB until you mention it to them. Here is an overview: When the 12?volt battery is disconnected or is depleted below 7 volts on 2006 model year RX 400h vehicles, it is necessary to perform the ISC Learning procedure to re?initialize the idle speed control. The information in TSIB EG010_05 relates to this procedure.

Lexus 400h

found a great deal on Cars.com. Love the car. The carfax integration gave me peace of mind in buying a used car. Great experience! After buying the Lexus, I then put my daughters Honda Civic for sale on Cars.com and sold it within a week.

2006 Lexus RX400H

I bought this vehicle in march of 2010. It had 30,025 and I bought it certified used. The car is very nice. I average anywhere between 23-27 mpg using regular fuel. The navigation system is comletely outdated. I bought the 2010 update for it and it is about 3 years behind. The street that I live on isn't even on the map. The ride is very comfortable, blue tooth works well with cell phone, quiet ride, rear backup camera is nice, touch screen with navigation looks pretty cool. The Lexus dealerships that I have gone to have helped me out and have been very helpful and extremely polite. I felt the service was great. For about 30k, I was looking at several vehicles including the GTI, RAV4, Crosstour, Venza, and Prius and felt this was the best value of any of the vehicles. Overall, great vehicle and I plan on keeping for a very long time.

The only choice, but a good one

We purchased a mint condition CPO Lexus RX 400h because it is the ONLY full/mid size SUV that gets 25+ MPG, has side curtain airbags in the 2nd row and has a power liftgate. We purchased the AWD model and my wife has averaged 25.2 mpg over the last 552 miiles which was 50/50 hwy/city driving. On just in town driving it is not uncommon to get 30 mpg. You will need to change your driving habits, but it is fun trying to achieve the best mpg that you can. The quality, fit and finish of the car is awesome too. I was never a big fan of Toyota/Lexus, but they have won us over.

Lexus with hybrid technology

This is my 3rd Lexus RX and I am a very discerning buyer, yet I always come back to Lexus. I like Lexus because they get how I use my car and the things that are important The best is the Resale - These cars hold their retail well so if you spend a bit more you will get a good amount in resale Service - Just drop your car off and get a loaner and go on with your day. nobody wants to wait at a car dealership Reliability - Spent less on 15 yrs of RX than 1 yr of a Nissan car All those special interior niceties - automatic wipers, auto headlights, 1 touch windows, Likes are hybrid and the car shutting off at lights so I don't pollute. Dislike are the small trunk area. If you are looking for alot of trunk space look elsewhere.

Luxury at it's best

This is the best luxury SUV I've owned. The seamless transmission with the Hybrid combo surprised me how fast it maneuvers. I have had no issues at all with this SUV and it is a steal on the resale market because it is a Lexus and will run forever.

Comfortable, Fun, Spacious and Stylish Hybrid SUV

Within a year of purchasing a new sedan in '03, I realized I had made a mistake. There were instances when the trunk was too small and a hatch was required for my needs. Then the price of oil skyrocketed. Not only did I need a hatch, but now I wanted a hybrid. In 2006, Lexus introduced the RX400h. At the time it came out, it went for the low $50Ks. I once rode in one as a livery vehicle and loved it, but it was too pricey for me. Over the next few years, I looked at other models of SUVs and/or hybrids. As it turned out, the RX400h was now in my price range as a certified, pre-owned vehicle. Three months ago, I bought one. What I liked about the 2006 vs. newer models was that premium gas is not required. I was told by the dealership that if I use premium, I would get better mileage. My own experiment disproved that statement. Actual overall MPG is around 24/26. This car LOVES traffic jams, sometimes hitting almost 40 MPG. The included fuel consumption computer tends to be off by a couple of ticks, displaying better than actual mileage. Comfortable and stylish, the interior is like a nice living room. The ride is extremely smooth. When you need that extra pick up to kick in quickly, it's more responsive than most cars I've driven. Also, when the doors and windows are shut, it is extremely quiet. The stereo system is good, but there are several options for speaker configurations. I have difficulty finding one that is useful for all genres of music. Lexus offers a Mark Levinson sound system as an option, which probably addresses that issue. My vehicle went for a lower than market value price, only to find out that there were alignment issues, as well as its sitting at the dealership for over a year, reason unknown. Last week I had to replace the 12V battery, something I thought they would have identified in their pre-owned certification process. I had several problems starting the car, but the new battery has solved the problem. Lexus prides itself on its service and I can see why. They have been attentive and helpful. The alignment issue has been resolved, the car has now been looked over by one of its best mechanics and they have been kind enough to provide loaner vehicles each time I took it in for service. Newer models have better and more flexible navigation features, as well as better MPG stats and iPod/iPhone compatibility. But the difference in price is not something I am willing to pay. For the same price, I could have bought a new, more utilitarian Hybrid SUV by other manufacturers, but would have sacrificed the extra cargo space, service, style, comfort and features of the RX400h, along with the brand reputation Lexus offers. Every time I get in the car, I know I'm in for another pleasurable driving experience. It was worth the wait.

Next Generation Vehicle

My wife bought a 2006 and it gets approximately 30mpg (our gallon is larger than USA). I sold my Acura MDX which was averaging 17mpg to purchase a 2007. No regrets, it is almost as quick as our Porsche and quiet, WOW! With winters that dip down to -50, they always start with the first turn of the key. Once you drive one of these, you won't go back to the old technology which I now consider to be a dinosaur. Does your SUV get 30 mpg in city driving? NOT!
