2006 Lexus RX 400h consumer reviews

When it's time for a new vehicle, we will usually buy a used model at a low price to test if it will be reliable,fits well, and is a pleasure to drive. The RX met all those needs except reliability. After about a year the rear hatch seal leaked and allowed water in to the hybrid area under the rear seat. The water shorted out the synchronization board for the hybrid battery. We were happy that the battery survived. The boad was $1200 to replace and then we still had to have the rear lift gate sealed. Lexus knows of this problem, they put out a service bulletin in 2007-2009 for this exact problem, but refused to help in any way. Surprisingly the customer service person was very rude about the whole situation. I could of accepted the hybrid battery dying as old as it is, but the whole seal leak problem and they were fully aware and did little to nothing is inexcusable. Avoid the hybrid and you will probably be fine.

I think the lexus RX400H is the best car I have ever owned. I have the All Wheel Drive version and it just sticks to the road like glue. It accelerates with amazing performance, almost like driving a race car. They Hybrid system does take some getting used to for us older generations that really count on the key starting the engine and the gas making it go no matter what conditions.

We recently purchased this car with over 150k miles for the sole purpose of driving kids to their many extracurricular activities! It is comfortable, cost effienict & peppy! I was surprised that the hybrid engine has so much get up & go!! This car will go to my 14 yr old in a couple of years & we can trust it?s reliability!

Needed a AWD vehicle for winter. Purchased this SUV from Coast2Coast in Indianapolis. Beautiful car, surprisingly quiet and handles easily, with good acceleration onto freeways. My first Hybrid car: good gas mileage. Elegant look. great sound system. Bluetooth for phone only...needed bluetooth receiver / transmitter that plugs into lighter to get music off my phone....inexpensive solution.

I first bought a Lexus 400h in November 2010. This was my first automatic vehicle but it was a hybrid and gas mileage was important to me. I always thought only fancy people could own a Lexus but with the vehicle's retained value and reliability, buying used was the way I could still get a luxury car without the luxury price tag. This car has seen me through mountain winters, desert summers, and many a road trip. The comfort and reliability of the RX400h matched with the superior customer service of Lexus has sold me as a customer for life. When I got married, my husband was thrilled with the RX400h, but we were not in a position to buy another one. We got a used "other" luxury vehicle and in the past two years have seen exactly why Lexus is superior to the other brand. The continued trips to the other dealership, price of parts and repairs, inconvenience of some of the engineering, and lack of reliability at only 120,000 miles was a surprise. We fought hard to be in a place where we could trade in that vehicle while it still retained some value and have finally bought a 2nd RX400h. We will keep them as long as we can because they are fantastic cars - even at the affordable several years old!

I loved the feel it?s not a sports car it?s not fast but it will get you there without braking your back....

The car beats all other four wheel drives hands down for overall reliability, comfort and drivability. Having had Range Rovers, Discovery, Mercedes ML and many more the Lexus RX400h nails them into the ground overall. It's very quick and few cars can match it's performance. Mine had done 86k when I purchased it two years ago its now 112k and feels no different. Other than services at the local garage its cost nothing in other repairs.

Great fuel-economy, comfort, and reliability for this vehicle. Also all-wheel drive and with all roomy interior as well as best value for resale as well.

Excellent vehicle for running family members around town and also to get large bulky outside items home.

it is fun to be in. it is smooth to touch. it is really cool. it makes me happy. you can get it into different colors.
