Not a good purchase

I bought a used v8 pathfinder and I traded in after owning less than 3 months. When I bought it I got a really good deal and was wondering why it was 15k less than a new one. I quickly found the reason why they don't hold thier value for a reason. Despite having a great engine and nice options, it was really a problem. It rattled bad and it took for ever for the transmission to shift up. It has horrible ground clearance with the saging bumpers. Everyone laughed at me with the big round Dodge Durando fenders. The fenders are awful to look at. I took it on a dirt road and thought it was going to fall apart, it rattled so bad. I tried to sell this beast and I didn't get one phone call in 3 months and had to trade it in and take a loss. I traded it for a nissan xterra off road, which isn't a whole lot better but at least it go off road and looks halfway decent. The new pathfinders are not like the old pathfinders, which were made great! Please go back to quality nissan. This was a horrible design! Don't buy this car!! If you do, you will be stuck with it because no one will but it. I just want to help other people not make the mistake that I did. Go for an older nissan you will be much happer.

Great suv

I have had my v8 pathfinder for about 2 yrs now and no problems. I have read about the few issues that other people were having and it seems to be only the v6 model. My v8 is amaazing, shifts great, sturdy and tons of storage space. It's great in the snow, handles well in rough driving conditions and I am always the first up to the ski slopes. I drove a few other cars, like the toyota 4runner and there was no comparison. More power, more space, more comfortable seats, more and better options.

So reliable, great ski vehicle

I love my pathfinder v8! It's amazing in the snow and really has a lot of space for a midsize suv. The big v8 in the smaller pathfinder is well worth it. It performs like a sports car but has the off road ability. Gas mileage is better than expected. I get about 14-15 in the city and 18-20 on the highway. Well worth the v8 for only 2mpg difference. I love the options, great reliability and it's not huge like bigger v8 SUVS so you can park it and wife loves it for this reason. Just the right space inside and out.

The v8 is amazing

This is my second pathfinder. I have had a 2000 LE for about 5yrs and it has been the most reliable car I have owned. I have owned acuras, chevys, fords, bmws and yes a toyota 4runner. My 4 runner was junk and the tranmission would burn up on the highway. With that said, I love the pathfinder and my new v8 is amazing. I don't know what people expect for a v8. Of course it's going shift hard, it's a powerful engine with a lot of torque. There are no competitors in the japanese market. The Toyota 4 runner is over priced and a under perfomer. You can't get anything for this price, with these options and this power. This v8 is faster than most cars and I have had no check engine light issue and if the transmission shifts hard, I sure havn't noticed. It's the same engine as the Titan and Armada and I have not heard anything wrong with this engine. Its a zero to 60 ability is amazing and no ones seems to mention this? I ski about 20 times a year and the pathfinder will get me through any snow storm. I have to say, I am disappointed to hear that Nissan is not backing the people that are having problems? The pathfinder is not for everyone but if you like the mountains as much as I do you can't go wrong. If you want a car like ride and gas mileage get something girly like a rav4 or and element.

Great Bang For The Buck

Hello, I have read over and done vast research on this sled and even owned one of the first PF's back in 1992 or so which had that triangle window on the two door version. That truck was a tank and I put it through some serious situations and it asked for more. Here is the Net Net, I currently own an '08 LE V8 and love it, however, I keep reading these complaints about how there is dissatisfaction with the overdrive or shifting at approx 35 to 45 mph. I have to be blunt, the V8 should be in tiptronic mode if you want to creep along in traffic and it should not be penalized for lack of response at those speeds. The beauty of the LE V8 is that an experienced driver can hold the tranny in second or third gear and keep the rev's up. This motor loves to be wound up and out and does not perform nor should perform at 40mph'ish in O/D or fifth gear. Seriously, think about it!!! The power and torque band curve for this well enginered powerplant is almost parallel through about 5,200 RPM if I remember correctly. This motor needs to rev, wants to rev, and enjoys having the propensity to blow the doors off of some punk 328I without hesitation and weighs about 1,000lbs more. In closing, engines enjoy, perform, and like to run hot in order to burn and blow out carbon deposits which the Titan 8 plant yearns for. The ones who complain about this overdrive/40ish mph thing should be driving a prius or comparable golf cart. Drive it like ya stole it and don't be afraid to wind that 8 banger through 5,500 rpm's with 93 octane. Don't forget the K&N either!!

Wife is happy....I'm happy

We bought our 2008 Pathfinder in November and we couldn't be more pleased. We have the 4x4 LE V8 and love it!! Yeah it does go through the gas but we knew that going in. Strong, Solid and attractive are the adjectives that come to mind. I would recommend this to my closest friend.

Get Used to the Service Engine Soon Light

We love the looks and features on the Pathfinder, but the service engine soon light deal is getting real old. Four trips to the dealer and the service engine soon light still comes back on after a week or two. Enough is enough - we paid for a new SUV, not a relationship with the service department at the Nissan dealer. Other than that - good power, good gas mileage for an SUV and the interior is great. If they get the service engine soon light fixed I would recommend - if the light remains a recurring problem, I would not recommend.

Great value for price

I compared the 4runner and I used to drive a Chevy Trailblazer. This Pathfinder comes with many standard features that are add-ons with the other two vehicles. I love the backup camera, and the vehicle control center. I'm 6'3" and I fit great in it. The suv does ride like a truck. It can bounce around on the road. I drive a mixture of highway and city, and have been averaging 18.2 mpg. Taking it off road here in Colorado has been no problem. Plenty of clearance. You can style up the looks of it with accessories like chrome grills and door handles to make it stand out from the pack.

Great vehicle for the price.

I bought this car new in the last quarter of '05 and received a steep discount. No other 4WD Off Road type came close to the price or the performance of this SUV. With seating for 7, I can take my grandchildren on camping and skiing trips with room for all of their luggage and, with a ski rack on the back, all of the skis and boards needed. The Pathfinder has NEVER given me one second of trouble in the 48,000 miles I have logged driving it.

Handles like a car

I purchased an 08 Pathfinder in March 2008. I have live in Upstate NY and have been on a few road trips with it. Rides nice and handles great. I averaged about 23.8 on the highway using 87 octane gas. I have had no problems with this vehicle. Very good engine performance and the 4LO feature is great. The only thing I would change is the seats, they are a little stiff for long drives. I looked at Toyota 4-Runners, Honda Pilots, and the Jeep Liberty. For the money the Nissan is by far the best bet. For those who have bad luck with SUV's, take another look at the Nissan Pathfinder.
