Amazing Quality, Looks & Performance

After many months of research and local test drives for a compact luxury suv, the Macan GTS, beyond any doubt, was my "dream car" and at the very top of my list. Its premium price was holding me back until I found one meeting my specs that was driven by a Porsche executive with less than 8,000 miles. So far, it has totally exceeded my expectations and makes me smile every time I drive it.

Honestly, Blown Away

I am able to haul my hockey gear and carve the canyons. The drive is well balanced and with the selective suspension settings in the GTS variant, I can cruise on long drives or hit the track. Plenty of power and the sound is captivating. Everything in the interior feels of high quality. Legroom in the back is a bit tight if you are taller than 6'3 but definitely do-able for anyone under this height. Overall, great experience so far.

Best driving vehicle I have ever owned.

I own a Macan GTS and it is definitely the most fun to drive out of the lineup. The suspension tuning makes it a beast when the road starts to twist yet the ride is always very compliant. I think Porsche is one of few manufacturers that can strike such a ride / handling balance. The steering is superb with excellent weight and feedback. The engine loves to rev and the sport exhaust on the GTS sounds fantastic. Porsche's PDK transmission is one of the best in the world so I need not say too much about that. I have only a few gripes and they are small ones. When the car is not in sport or sport plus drive mode the throttle and engine response just off idle can be lethargic until you reach 2,000 RPM's. This could be to gain MPG in town though because it's rated at a very respectable 17 city and 23 highway. Visibility out the back is marginal at best and the steering wheel blocks the driver from some of the air flow from the vents. This really bothers me when it's really hot out and I'm trying to cool off after I get in my hot car. Overall, it is the most exciting and well-built automobile I have ever owned, and I have owned many American and German cars.

Practical & Fun

I've had my Porsche Macan S for about 3 weeks and love it. It's responsive and surprisingly agile for an Crossover SUV. My only complaint is that the Premium Package did not come with the navigation system and my vehicle did not come equipped with NAV. Unfortunately their car connect system only works with I-phone and then will only provide access to Apple maps, not Google maps.

Love this car!

Great handling cuv. Looks and performance in a relatively decent price package. Just wish it was a tad larger. But it's Way better than the larger Cayenne. So I went with it. Glad I did.

This is the new 3-series wagon

TL;DR version: I only drove the S6 and own a 2017 340i xDrive. The GTS handles far better than either one. Long version: After driving my 2011 RX-8 R3 for 5 years, I wanted a different car that I can enjoy with may family of 5. The RX-8 was very reliable, but since I only put 23,000 miles on it or so, longevity was never tested. If I had only 2 kids, the back seats of the RX-8 would have fit a pair of average-sized adults fine for trips less than, say, 2 hours long. So yeah, I am fond of that car. I drove an S6 (2017) first. The power was intoxicating. The interior was perfect. The craftsmanship was befitting the $80k price tag (Arras Red, Sports Package, Panther Black paint ... YUM). But, even after two test drives, I was left feeling like something was wrong with the steering. It was accurate, well-weighed, and adjustable. I just could not pull the trigger. Then I decided to branch out. Even though C&D gave a scathing review of the Lexus GS350 F Sport, MT was much kinder. I drove it. It was even more underwhelming. Perhaps Lexus wanted too much to impart a "sporty" feel, but it was not that quiet, it was not that comfortable, yet it was still numb. I actually bought a 340i the next day. The steering was about the same as the S6 -- very precise, very numb. However, it was actually quieter and more comfortable than the Lexus! And the 340 was way quicker. Since the one I tested came with a stick shift, AND (as a result of the stick shift?) the dealer gave me a huge discount (less than 100 miles on the odometer), its higher sticker (than the Lexus) came in under the (after discount) Lexus price. After driving it for a few months, I kind of got used to its steering, and just settled with (what I though was) the fact of life with modern luxury "sports" sedans. My frame of reference, in addition to the RX-8, were a 2009 (new then) 328i xDrive and numerous other Mazda cars. The RX-8 was one of the best electric steering setups. Considering it came out in 2003, it's amazing that a car that inexpensive had the electric steering figured out that early. I don't like SUVs. But the Jaguar F Pace reviews were spectacular. The electric failures -- typical of Jags -- seemed equally spectacular in the reviews. Then Porsche Macan GTS came out. I did not care to be seen in a Porsche, so an SUV Porsche already had two strikes against it. However, the reviews were just so good! I drove one, then I bought one the next day. Its handling gave me hope again. I imagine the F Pace and Giulia QV are the only two that can rival the GTS in its combination of handling, power, and luxury features. The QV seems like it's failing left and right already. The fact that it left an MT editor stranded in the middle of the street (due to faulty start-stop system that failed to start again. OOPS!) left me so cold. Even a weekend toy should not leave you stranded these days! If you are thinking about cars like the S6, M3, etc, try the GTS too! It'll be one of the most fun luxury wagons you'll drive.

SUV for those who like sport cars

Drives like a Porsche SUV should. Effortless acceleration with the turbo model and PDK. Short shifting at 4K in Sport+ is amazing. I haven't floored it, still in break-in period. It gets a lot of attention compared to my X5. Blacked out with black paint and 21 wheels would not have been my choice but I love it. Very smooth, quick, refined and handles really well.
