Not what I expected
I'm a car aficionado &, though I'd heard magnificent things about Subaru over the years, I never really understood the allure. Frankly, I always thought they were ugly, quirky automobiles. But people (& dogs) seem to just LOVE em! So when my mom passed & I received her 2010 Forester with only 20k miles, I had mixed feelings. 5,000 miles later, I still have mixed feelings! The car has what can best be described as a "cult" following. The gigantic sunroof rocks, the interior looks great and is quite comfortable, the manumatic transmission keeps me somewhat engaged & the steering wheel-mounted controls are certainly a plus. The mileage is also quite good - about 27 mpg overall. But there are plenty of disappointments. The normally-aspirated 4 cylinder engine is positively anemic and, in conjunction with the "wet sponge" suspension, makes the thing about as much fun to drive as an electric wheelchair. The interior appointments are surprisingly sparse for a top-end trim line - even by 2010 standards. No backup camera, no Bluetooth, no MP3 player...absolutely no connectivity at all! On the other hand, the leather is wonderful, the power driver's seat has a pretty broad range of configurations & even the rear seats recline. The buzzing of the boxer engine can often be heard - even above all the wind & road noise. Seats aside, the interior materials positively SUCK! The promise of quality is quickly broken by hard, cheap-looking plastic absolutely everywhere. Even the floor covering is more like a thin, stiff woven mat than actual carpeting. It's as if someone carefully perused each & every detail in an effort to trim costs. And yet, the door handles appear to be a high quality chrome. Go figure. I'm told this fruity-looking little machine is a beast in the snow. But, ultimately, time will tell if the lil 'Ru endears itself to me. So far, it looks like a draw.

Needs to be a 6-Cyls and it would be great
It would be a fantastic car if it were a 6-cyl. Because it's only a 4-cyl, it really struggles when you have cargo and passengers. They really should have made it a 6-cyl, it's just doesn't have enough HP's, the low gas mileage is proof: 22/gallon which is really bad for a 4-cyl.

Very good daily driver.
I own a base model subaru forester and it is very reliable, comfortable, and fun to drive. Never had any real problems, other than a few quality issues (front doors rattle and windows seals and not very good). Very good in snow.

Subaru Forester. A 2010 review.
Our Subaru has served us well since we bought it new in 2010. The interior is spacious and comfortable. The controls are well positioned, with cruise and stereo on the streeing wheel. The AWD saved our trip from Waco to Emory one day in March. A snow storm formed right as we started home and piled snow up to 8 inches deep before we got home. We passed multiple wrecks that day but never felt unsecured in our car. We are looking to replace this 2010 with a 2017 - 2018 Subaru Forester.

Never left me stranded
The SUV is great except for the wheels/tires installed when bought as brand new. I do not know which the rims or the tires. I constantly have to pump air into random tires when the "low tire" light comes on. The tires that came with the vehicle were P225/55R17 Yokohama Geolander H/T G95A.

Disappointed with leaky head gasket problem
I love the quality of the Subaru. I have enjoyed driving it, find it comfortable for long trips, and for hauling whatever is necessary (like baby stuff!) I AM disappointed that I had to replace the drive train, an oil sending unit, and now have been told I have leaking head gaskets. After internet research, it appears this is a "common" problem.
