Subaru is a Japanese manufacturer of cars and SUVs with a dedicated consumer base. All-wheel drive has been a Subaru staple, but the automaker branched out in mid-2012 when it debuted a small, rear-wheel-drive sports coupe called the BRZ — a car related to the Toyota 86.
The BRZ joins the all-wheel-drive WRX and WRX STI compact sedans to form Subaru’s performance-vehicle lineup. The automaker’s entry-level car is the Impreza compact sedan and hatchback. The Impreza also forms the basis for the Crosstrek small SUV. Subaru's mid-size sedan is the Legacy, which is related to the Outback, a higher-riding wagon that's adopted some SUV cues. Subaru's more-traditional SUVs are the compact Forester and three-row Ascent.
