Cost effective car
This is the most cost effective car on the market today. It is a luxury universal in the city, fully capable SUV in rural areas, yet fuel efficient and affordable. Was shopping for a crossover for at least 4 month. Test drove Venza, Rav4, HR-V, Sportage2011, Forester, InfinityEX35. Almost bought the Infinity for the driving impressions and design. But ended up with Outback. No regrets. Did 2700 miles so far in the Salt Lake City area. Mileage as advertised 24 to 32. Climbed the hill where Ford Explorer has to back up, and crossed the deep river where only serious SUV has courage to go. Accelerate to 100mls/hr and had no vibrations with average noise. Roomy, comfortable, well thought vehicle.

Best crossover.
Everything you want in a crossover, the best kept secret. Great mpg, great interior room and cargo space. Limited model is luxurious. Who needs a Lexus??

I love this car!
I bought a 2011 Outback. (Former mini van owner) I have been driving it for a month now and I just love it. The seats are super comfortable, the back seats have tons of leg room and it drives smooth (unlike a lot of compact SUV's). It's still too early to know what the actual gas mileage is but the "average MPG" indicator says: 26. You don't see many Subaru's in Southern California, which is a mystery to me because it is a great ride.

Subaru changes with the times
I have owned a number of Outbacks since 2000. 4 cylinders, turbos and now the most recent 4 cylinder. This car is definitely different than my 2000, 2005 xt turbo. It has more room, better road stability but less road feel and seems to be quieter. The market Subaru seems to be after is definitely more mainstream adn they will likely sell more. On my street when I purchased my firsr Subie in 2000 there were none. As of today, there are now 3 other Outbacks on my street with another one on order. I would recommend this vehicle if you require all wheel drive, want good gas mileage, need back seat space and require a high degree of reliability. If you want pure emotion from a vehicle then buy a Mini! Test drive all the typical competitors and my guess is that the Outback will be on your shortlist.

32MPG
This new model has a backseat that even adults fit well into. In the past, the cramped rear quarters of the previous generation Outback kept us from buying it. Also, with the manual and 2.5 we've been getting 32 mpg - not bad for an AWD wagon and much better than the EPA estimates for this car.

What a great car
Subaru has done itself proud in the complete redesign of the outback. I test drove many vehicles, and this is the best handing bar none.
