Best all wheel drive system available

This is a great family car. It has high safety ratings and is awesome at driving and handling in snow. By far the best all wheel drive system out there. It is also a very comfortable ride and has all the features I need (back up camera, navigation, Bluetooth, heated seats, etc)

Reliable and versatile

I bought this car new and now have around 75,000 miles on it. The Outback 2.5 is reliable and versatile. It gets good gas mileage for the size of this car and with all wheel drive. The HVAC system is louder than I would like but that might be better with the dual-zone climate control system. The top of the dash on the 2014 is hard plastic that reflects off the windshield at certain light. This was correct later on with a softer dash top.

well put together. A/W/D strong styling.

Solid car with great styling and good gas mileage. A/W/D is a plus. For the price I believe it is one of the best utility cars on the market.

Love my Outback

This car meets or exceeds my expectations in all categories. It's very comfortable, rides and handles very well, and gets very good mileage. It desn't perform like my BMWs or turbo Volvos, but that was expected. The Outback has plenty of interior space, especially the back seat leg & headroom, and all the bells and whistles I need.

New car breaks down, wanted to love it

The outback had the makings for a decades long vehicle. Unfortunately, it had mechanical problems from the get go. The problems started getting serious. After only 4 years of owning it I faced a situation where the steering column would lock my keys into the ignition, and also I would have dangerously low oil 2 weeks after changing the oil. Of course, Subaru was extending the warranty for this issue on some of their other models, but not the Outback automatic. Tried to work with this, but they basically scammed me.

My dream car!

Has all the features I wanted. Was hoping for more ease entering and exiting the vehicle, but for most people it would be just right. I?m just getting OLD! Good visibility. Smooth riding and running

New car breaks down, wanted to love it

This dealership sold me a brand new Subaru Outback, that immediately had problems with alignment. It took more than 2 trips to their dealer to argue and get it sorted. Within a few months one of the tires went flat. Finally 3 years later, I started having low oil issues 2 weeks after an oil change. There were no oil leaks, and we found out that there was a broken piston which would cost thousands of dollars to pull apart the engine and replace. Apparently there was a class action settlement where they would extend the warranty to repair the issue EXCEPT for automatic outbacks, even though, to my opinion, the other VINs had the same engine and same issue. It's too bad, I really like the outback, but I've had nothing but trouble with mine. New buyers beware. Subaru and the auto industry seem to know that these cars are infamous for oil consumption engine issues, but they will be happy to sell it to you without mentioning it nonetheless.

Subaru Outback - The practical decission

When my wife and I started wanting to replace our Camry (200,000 miles) we wanted something that would top it in the "longevity" department and asked around (researched) and saw that Toyota, Honda, and Subaru seemed to be the longest lasting vehicles. We wanted AWD and an SUV but wanted something as big as our camry (inside) but not as big as our suburban. We wanted good fuel economy too. The outback seemed to hit all the buttons. It wasn't our favorite SUV style (since it is a wagon) but the Crosstrek (one of my favorites) was just too small and pokey. The Outback was "just right"! I enjoy the eyesight camera lane tracking and cruise adjusting feature especially. That was a feature I didn't even know what it was, and turns out to be my favorite thing. You can set the cruise speed, adjust the "distance" from the car in front of you, and it will adjust speed in traffic to keep you from getting too close to the car in front of you. Super smooth and trouble free, too. If another car passes you and cuts in front really close, it knows that it is going faster and will soon be the "accepted" distance away so it doesn't "break" to slow you down to your accepted distance. (A distance you can change with 3 different distances from the car in front) In heavy traffic, you can choose "one line" - represent close up (not tailgating... but not lagging so far back that another car will try to get in front of you .... slowing you down even more. Etc... Anyway, we are pleased with our purchase, and feel like we will be able to drive this car for about $1000 a year as opposed to $2000 or $2500 per year that most cars are costing these days. (if you buy used) Some even much more than that. We are on a budget .. trying to invest our money ... not drive it.
