Excellent SUV alternative
I was looking for a crossover SUV, but as soon as I drove the Outback, I knew that I found the right car for me. It has plenty of trunk space. AWD comes standard (instead of having to pay extra) and the clearance is good, which will be really helpful during the northeastern winters. The resale value is also fantastic. Several of my friends have Suburus (and Outbacks specifically) and they love their cars. And, so far, so do I!

Best of the good oned
This Outback is the fourth Outback I have owned. The reason: Outstanding reliability and dependability, great performance in all kinds of weather, especially in snow and on ice, which we have plenty of here in the Midwest. I can go anywhere with ease in the winter with my Outback. Good looking, roomy interior, large volume in the back for fishing trips, grocery shopping, garden supplies or whatever. An Outback is the only car I will ever own.

I love it. It?s a big step up from my 1985 Capris.
I?m really enjoying driving this new car. Love the flat back cargo area for camping. All the new safety features lowered my insurance which was a big pleasant surprise. There is lots of leg room and you don?t feel like your crammed into a sardine can. The front seat raises up so I can see over the dash and steering wheel a must in my book because I want to know where the front of my car is. I was a bit shortchanged between my tail and eyeballs but my legs are long. Most cars I tried felt very cramped and I couldn?t see the front of the car. Few have seats that actually fold flat. It has 8.5? clearance so should do well on gravel roads in the far out places I like to go. Star link makes it good for a gal out by themselves too should they get into any king of a pickle.

Ultilitarian
For a car/station wagon the Outback is reliable and uses space well. As a long time truck owner it's quite a shock to the system being low to the ground and limited on use. Performance is good and so is gas mileage, hard to gripe about that. So far there are a few issues that I will have to take it back to the dealer to fix for instance the passenger window won't go down from the drivers side. Frustrating. What do I wish? I wish they made this w/o a computer so fewer things would break in time. I also wish the vehicle had more ground clearance...don't even think about taking it off road.

Best car ever!!!
Love the safety system in my Subaru, drives wonderful, just under 30 MPG!!!, no unwanted 3rd seat to deal with, just the right amount of space. We got $5000 off under window sticker and 0 percent interest, much better deal than it's competition and a better car for me.

Best value ever.
Solid workman ship. Quiet as a church, quick off the line, great steering, handles beautifully, good gas mileage for the 6 cylinder. Has Eyesight and all the other safety features and a very reasonable price.

Versatility personified
This 2018 Outback is the first Subaru I?ve owned. It gets decent fuel mileage at around 27 mpg overall. The four cylinder is enough most of the time, but on rare occasion it would be nice to have that extra push of a more powerful motor. The trade of is the economy with provides a return on investment constantly. The Outback AWD allows it to go where larger 4wd trucks cannot go or certainly cannot go as easily. The Outback is light and doesn?t sink and make ruts like trucks I?ve owned would. There are many accessories to personalize to your uses. I?ve added a receiver hitch mounted bike rack and a roof rack. The Outback is a wagon so there is already a decent amount of storage. The model I purchased included iSight and many safety features that have saved us a few times but just as many times have proven to be frustrating. For example if a car pulls of the road in an exit to the left or on the shoulder to the right if they are slightly on the road, even if you veer away slightly the collision prevention will forcefully engage the brakes. This is especially frustrating because you have control and vehicles behind you wonder why you slammed on the brakes. Another frustrating issue we have is the inability to open the rear hatch if the vehicle is running. The only way to open the hatch is to turn off the car. The inside button seems to work only when it feels comfortable doing so. Overall I?m impressed with the car, it is efficient, versatile, meets or exceeded my expectations. The few issues we have had are minor and don?t detract enough to drop the rating significantly. That being said it is a close call between good/excellent rating.

The "step up" is very accessible for my agse: 90
An excellent first drive.... (Secret: a retired High School Latin teacher. I am very fussy) Being a retired high school teacher, I am still very critical of what I examine. The Subaru is A+.
