3rd generation Toyota 4Runner probably the best...

I own a 1999 Toyota 4Runner SR-5 AWD V6. It currently has 268K miles. The engine and transmission runs perfectly just as it was 23 years ago. These trucks will run forever if you do the basic maintenance like changing the oil every 3 to 5K miles ( I tend to change it every 3.5K miles), replace the plugs every 80K miles, replace the timing belt every 100K miles etc. The first 16 years of ownership besides basic maintenance including replacing the brake pads and tires, I absolutely didn't have any issues with the car. These last 6 to 7 years I had 2 major issues, one is the fuel injection which cost about $900 and the brake system which cost $1,800. I don't drive the car anymore on long distance trips but I'm sure if I have too it's still more than capable. The car is so reliable that I look forward to driving it well over 300K miles. One last thing, here in California I still see many 3rd generation 4Runners still on the road. Definitely there are a lot more 3rd generation than the 4th generation model. The last 3rd generation 4 Runner came out in 2002. How many other car brands can make this claim? This speaks volumes on the Toyota 4 Runner's durability and reliability.

Most reliable vehicle ever!

I own a 1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4WD with 368,000 miles on it and still going strong. I bought it with only 24,000 miles on it. Extremely reliable and best vehicle ever owned. Very happy with this model.

99 4Runner SR5 4WD

Still own my SR5 4WD today and have never been stranded. I’m on the original set of brakes at 161,000 miles and the 3.4L V6 runs just as strong as it did the day we drove it off the lot. Mine is a standard 5-speed that absolutely kills it in the snow. Probably going to pass it down to my son if he wants it. It’s the only new car I’ve ever bought and probably the last.

Best vehicles ever!!

I am a little prejudice lol. Love love my 4Runners yes plural. I own a 98 Limited and a 99 SR5. Both in 200,000 mile club with nothing but basic maintenance/wear out items. My 99 is named Grace because she's freaking amazing, my 98 is Betty(after Betty White because she's awesome and going to live for ever lol) The only bad thing about any 3rd generation 4runner is buying it. Good ones are pricey but worth every penny. I'd trust either of mine to drive anywhere tomorrow. Best 4x4 SUV ever in my opinion. Currently looking for a 3rd , 3rd gen 5speed 4runner. BUY THIS CAR !!! You won't be disappointed only your mechanic because he's just going to be doing oil changes and brake pads lol

Fun, Reliable SUV

Excellent vehicle. Lots of fun. Practical and reliable. Plenty of room. And still compact enough to be versatile. Would recommend this SUV to anyone. Very fun

Probably the best car I've ever owned

Reliability is the first thing I look for in any vehicle, and while the 4Runner excels in that department, it is also roomy, comfortable, well designed and engineered, and an excellent tow vehicle as well. Mine is 2WD which is all I personally need, but the 4WD versions are known to be great off road vehicles. I purchased mine used with 129,000 miles on it and changed the oil every 2500 miles. It now has 305,000 on it, uses no oil, and runs like a brand new vehicle. It's been in the shop once in twelve years for a tune up - period. I've owned a number of good, solid and reliable vehicles in my lifetime, but I've never had any vehicle that has performed like this one. I anticipate leaving this automobile to my 2 year old grandson.

The smart man's SUV. Range Rover alternative.

"Tha Beast", black SR5, Highlander pkg, loaded, Yakima rack, brush guard, 5spd. Has over 200k miles. I'm its 2nd owner. Maintenance costs, other than stuff I broke, or that Sears Auto Center screwed up. Sunroof doesn't work, CD player/changer sucks, persistent electrical/charging issue; kills batteries. Front end rubber bushings worn out = "death roll." Still drives fine, and smooth, regardless. My favorite vehicle ever. 2nd favorite was my '97 SR5 totaled due to black ice. Saved my life on more than one occasion. Favorite feature: hood scoop aka cod piece/snout/head hump/kok. 2nd favorite feature: power rear window. Can't kill it. Can't seem to bring myself to sell or trade it. Bury me in it.

Love my 99.

Great vehicle. I keep it well maintained. However nothing lasts forever. I have had to make some expensive repairs only because of the age of the vehicle. But the engine and transmission are both top notch. My interior is in very good condition. I take care of my 99 and it takes care of me. 💕
