Good truck - hope it lasts me a long, long time

Was looking for a larger vehicle with some more rugged capability to replace my '06 RAV4 Limited. As a fan and previous owner of other Toyotas, I was naturally inclined to find and like the 4Runner, which I purchased in early February 2010. Have found the 4Runner SR5 to handle well, deliver adequate power, and be very capable, though it does take a good yank to go from 2 to 4wd and it is a bit of a reach for my petite size (5'2"). The added height is a bonus, and even without the running board or other step, I find it easy to get in and out. As for interior options/accessories, I love some and hate a couple things. First, having Homelink is wonderful and there are enough buttons for all of my garage doors and gate. I also like the integrated BlueTooth, though that isn't new. Storage compartments up front are convenient. I also love the auto rear window -- perfect for toting my two dogs. I HATE, HATE, HATE the sliding rear cargo deck. What a useless space-waster! I would find far more use out of a false-bottom floor where I could stash first aid kits, shopping bags or tools... Which brings me to my next complaint -- too little hidden storage in the cargo area. Admittedly, I was spoiled by the RAV4's hidden storage; however, the 4Runner has only a thin covered caddy behind the back seats and a few open spots on the side. A few essentials (emergency kit, first aid gear) should be with you at all times, neatly stowed away from the other daily cargo for only those times you need them. My last minor complaint are the stereo options. Pretty lame compared to other Toyota vehicle options, but that can be fixed with aftermarket equipment.

Durable everyday + Off Road in one package

This truck replaced my Highlander. I was afraid of the gas mileage, but it is almost a tie (19mpg avg.) My Limited Edition is not wallowing as some reveiws indicate. The ride is not as carlike as crossover's, but the feel of the body on frame is worth the sacrifice. On the positive side it glides over New England potholes with aplomb without any sign of the suspension distruction (fFixing the suspension is so costly on the crossovers.) I hope that this truck will be safe, much more durable and last longer.

Fun Ride

Lots of fun to drive. Open the roof and back window and your in open space. Bluetooth phone and audio player are fantastic. Comfortable seats and great handling make you seek out curves. Could have more low end torqe, but around town it's perfect. Over 20 mpg with excellant off road features.

alot of compliments

purchased the 4 runner in dec. 09. the new design is more aggressive, not such a chick design. the only thing i dont like is the placement of the cruise control controls, and the combination of the windshield wiper controls for the windshield and the liftgate.. to confusing, on the same stick. i got the limited, in black, and put new dale jr. chrome wheels on it, looks sharp, but it was pricy, and the dealers dont want to deal on them because they are selling all they can get.

4Runner - Toyota are you listening?

I have owned multiple toyota trucks in the past, and this is a great advancement. I have one major complaint, however, with the off-roading ability: In an effort to improve fuel economy, Toyota no longer has recovery exposed hooks on the front of the Limited model. If you need to recover, or be recovered, you need to remove the plastic air dam to expose tiny hooks. Now, if this were a crossover, this would be ok. But the 4Runner has a long history of being a very capable off-road vehicle. It is one of the few true SUVs on the market. As such, Toyota should have left the hooks exposed - despite the negligible decrease in fuel economy. This simply is not acceptable. Toyota if you are listening, please change this.

Great Truck

Solid performance around town and incredible performance off road. What more could you ask for? Exterior is the best looking 4Runner ever, interior is well laid out however some better interior materials could have been used for a truck costing $33k-40k+. Storage bins everywhere, a great feature! Incredible storage area in rear, still not sure if i'm a fan of the sliding cargo deck. Love the face the rear window rolls down, a feature I have loved on my '08 Tundra. This 4Runner drives buttery smooth on the highway and in town, could use a little more power on the low end, but I have gotten used to the ridiculous amounts of power on tap from the 5.7L V8 in my tundra so I guess anything is going to feel "underpowered" in comparison. Suspension is a bit too soft, but it straddles the lines of comfort/off-road prowess/stability very well for a truck based SUV. Gas mileage is good, been averaging about 19+ mpg mixed use, on a recent trip to CA got up to 24mpg. Very good for a vehicle of this size. Definitely happy with my purchase and can't wait till my odometer reaches 300k then 400k then ...

Love to drive it

I owned a 1997 4Runner that finally gave in after 220k miles; the body style of the '10 4Runner Limited is nice, refined, tough looking; having 20" wheels fits the truck nicely; the interior reminds me of a Land Rover, luxury to my standards. Great truck so far, I plan on driving it until 2023.

OK

Marginal at best, was expecting a bit more in terms of quality workmanship and features (example: poor functioning bluetooth mic dealer says is fine). I hope it fires up for many miles as Toys typically do but for more than that spend your money elsewhwere. Positives - reasonably quiet and smooth, wiper heater, roomier than last version, decent performance in snow. Negatives - poor highway acceleration, not a very comfortable driver position, exposed antenna?, bluetooth mic is almost non functional while driving, marginal rear wiper, no memory seats, only one option for tires on 20" wheels, no running boards....
