2016 Toyota Highlander consumer reviews

Of the six categories offered in this review I rated Performance and Exterior Styling as four stars (all the rest are five). Regarding performance, well, I'm used to some rather quick sedans and while this isn't nearly as peppy it does have great acceleration for an SUV. The acceleration is both responsive and will certainly get the job done in the passing lane. I took a star off on styling not because I don't think the Highlander is a good looking car but because it can, at times, blend into the sea of commuters on I-35. It simply isn't a standout looker. That's okay because what it lacks in looks it makes up for in other ways. Pop the hood and look at the engine. Guess what...you can actually see that there is an engine. It's not covered by 100 lbs of plastic. Sure there's an engine cover to pretty things up a bit but nothing like the Lincoln MKS that came before my Highlander and certainly nothing like the Jaguar S-Type that came before the MKS. I selected the XLE trim level for my Highlander. It is extraordinarily well laid out. It is better than the cars that came before it by a mile! Everything is either at my fingertips or, for the less used functions, within easy reach. The controls are intuitive and simple to use. The leather seating is quite nice but I am waiting to see how they hold up. Only time time will tell. My particular XLE has the optional 'captains' seating in the rear. It's a nice feature that my wife wishes we would have had when our children were small as it would have done away with a lot of the..."He's touching me!!!" I have just over 74,000 miles on this vehicle and it rides like new. Sure, I've been smoother riding cars but, not in a smoother riding SUV. Towing a trailer behind even seems to smooth it out a little further. Admittedly, I haven't towed up to the 5,000 lbs rating but I can say that the Highlander can certainly handle 3,500 lbs without much trouble. (A side note on towing capacity -- If you're looking for one of these and plan on towing make 100% sure verify your vehicle tow rating. I found that it can fluctuate greatly with equipment.) I'll rate this car as a serious contender for the best car I've ever owned! BTW, don't tell my wife I said that. She owns a Toyota Camry.

I love the second row bucket seats so I don’t have to help my kids into the third row. Plenty of leg room for all. Smooth ride and beautiful interior. Cargo space isn’t great with the third row, but we will use a roof box when that time comes. Perfect family car that isn’t a van!

Not much for writing reviews but I felt Toyota did such an awesome job with the ‘16 Highlander that it deserves me writing one. Perfect legroom, power, handling, cargo room, styling and interior layout. Had zero mechanical issues in the 55k miles I’ve owned it.

The Highlander replaces my old Toyota Camry. It was time for more room for me and my long legs, as well as room to carry things from time to time. I also wanted more room for my children and/or grandchildren to feel comfortable when they ride with me. I love the features that I'm learning about and adjusting to. I know that it's going to take a while, but I am definitely enjoying every minute of my learning process!

Super reliable and great resale, Thats a Toyota! I looked at used car lots and found that the cars mostly had minor problems. Interior, Exterior and service. Elmore had Certified cars that were like enew.

So far this is an excellent vehicle for our needs. All systems work and work well. Power is excellent. Transmission is doing well. I'm a little bit off-put by the 8 speed transmission. I don't think it is necessary. I'd rather have a CVT transmission. BUT, it is doing fine on shift points mated to this V6 engine. Nice interior, but odd placing of the front seats!! They can however be adjusted, being electric. When you sit high enough, you need more vertical steering wheel room. I am 5'11". I have to raise the seat up almost all the way. Shouldn't have to. Good sound system. Can't be said for all Toyotas, but good in the Highlander. Overall, a great vehicle.

Roomy, reliable, fun to drive. Extensive features make car-driving safe, fun and intuitive. Panoramic roof, heated seats (front and back), heated steering wheel, cooled seats, and the list goes on.

The car met all my family's needs. Very luxurious vehicle. Toyota will be first option from here on out. The best vehicle I have bought in my lifetime.

Our highlander has been such a great car! It has the walk thru to the third row which has been quite beneficial. It drives so well and the design is sporty yet still classy!

This car met all of my needs ! Very comfortable, can drive on the snow road ! I love this car and high recommend it to everyone .
