Strengths and Weaknesses

This car is well optimized for getting good mileage, but has a few flaws as well. The biggest is that in an effort to produce a slippery shape, the rear seat headroom was seriously compromised. I am 5'11" and can sit in the back only by scrunching down, and even then my head is rubbing the headliner. I can't imagine this would be safe in a collision, and it certainly isn't comfortable. One of my fellow carpoolers (also 5'11") can't sit in the back at all since the experience leaves him in back pain the next day. Thus the car's potential as a commuter vehicle is seriously compromised. It also tends to surge considerably on the highway unless cruise control is used. It would be best suited for around town use or commuting by one or two people, or a family with one child. (There isn't enough space for all the stuff that goes with two children.) That said, if it fits your needs you will do well in it and be happy. I am thinking that the new and somewhat more spacious Saturn Aura Green Line hybrid may be better as an all-round vehicle. The Saturn also seems a little more realistically priced as a well-equipped base model including standard safety features such as stability control and side airbags.

best car i have ever owned to date

have 12000 miles on it in 11 months.mileage is around 45 m.p.g. thats average for summer and winter combined.the tires i think have a little to be desired however in snow. but if you drive with a little common sense they will get you by in most situations.but all in all with good point and bad points yes i would buy this car again.its a good car. you can drive it 10 miles an hour or a 100m.p.h and it will do it. yes i do like it.

Well-designed throughout, brilliant engineering.

Very satisfied owner. We've put 40,000 miles on in 3 years, both locally, and on long trips. The only comfort lacking is power seats, driver and passenger. Aside from that, a very comfortable, reasonably good riding, and fun to drive car. And a great topic of conversation: "That's what we all should be driving!" kind of reactions from our friends.

Most unreliable car I didnt purchased

Gas mileage ,warranty, taxicab appearance,is all suspect. Why pay a premium for a car with all these liabilities. WITH the E.P.A. revisions of mileage down grading 30 to 40 % the lawn mower( hybrid) is no better than a small gas job.Beyond the opiated ads,on these cars, the govt. agency has failed us again.Years ago you had cityand hwy miles listed on the sticker.Biggest objection I had was the battery pack.Batterys belong in flash lights.

Exceeded my expectations!

I just purchased the 2007 Touring edition. The 16" tires with the new tuned suspension make a huge difference in handling and feel. I travel the freeway alot and have been suprised by the engine performance in getting up to speed (75mph) and maintaining speed. Very satisified. I'm averaging 46.7 mpg which is mainly freeway/highway travel with some city. I was able to get the $3,150 IRS cash rebate (ended 9/30/06), but the new $1,575 rebate is still impressive (it will only last until 3/31/07) don't miss out.

A joy to own

I sold my Lexus ES 330 and bought the Prius, and I'm delighted. This is a remarkable car -- comfortable, quiet, well controlled, relatively roomy inside and one that you can feel good about as you watch the Hummers and Escalades lumber by. Most remarkable of all, my two girls (17 and 19) are envious! They drive a Jetta and a VW, which I thought were infinitely higher on the teenage preference list that a stodgy hybrid, but I have to beat them back with a stick! Dad actually did a cool thing for once (totally inadvertently).

best car i've owned

Drives so nicely my wife wants to drive it instead of her car. Does cause some family friction. The very good mileage is a bonus. So far no problems either major or minor in 12,000 miles

Awsome Fuel Economy

I bought our 2005 Prius last October. I traded in our 01 Bonneville because we moved to a different area and my wife would be driving about 500 miles per week shuffling kids around to and from school and other social activities. Well I more than made up the difference in payments with what I save in gas. We average about 50 mpg in warm weather. I did notice that when the temp drops below about 50 fuel economy starts to go down. In the dead of winter we averaged about 45 mpg. This kind of mileage from a comfortable car that seats five people? This car is truly awsome. I also have only taken the car in for regular maintence. I have not had a single glitch in any system onboard. It does take about a day or so to get used to a vehicle that shuts its engine off and starts it back up whenever the computer deems it necessary, not when you want it to. We are approaching the 30k mile mark on the odometer and loving it at the gas pump. Also, I am no tree hugger but it doesn't hurt that the car puts out less pollution that your average SUV.
