Love my VW
This is the first VW I have ever owned. My last vehicle was an S-10, and have had several trucks, and a Mitsubishi Montero. This is a great vehicle..It has everything I was looking for +. Only a few problems - visor lights, wipers, but all covered by warranty. Do wish the satellite radio was not on the dash. Price was a little higher than other vehicles, but I am pleased with the car.

My new car
Just took delivery on our Tiguan S. I've always been a Nissan guy and wanted one real bad but the only thing close was the Rogue, which didn't interest me. I looked at the Forester, and CX7. The Subaru was a little weak on power and the CX7 rode kind of rough. This thing is quick and yes, it does cost more than other CUV's in its class. But it offers quite a lot like a lot of leg room for its size. And small features like one-touch up AND down window(s)operated from the driver's seat and a base stereo that's as good as a lot of other upgraded ones. This is short term so far, but we used 10 gal of gas in 237 miles (the first 237 on the car). Not bad for the first tank. Will keep you posted.

Smart, Stylish, fun to drive compact SUV....Go VW!
I really do not understand why this car is getting bad reviews. This compact SUV is the perfect blend of performance and utility. I drove every small SUV and picked the Tiguan because of its amazing build quality, super quiet cabin, and sporty driving demenor. It is very comfortable, I love the fact that you can get heated cloth seats (I hate leather), and a great GPS system. I think the people who are complaining about the gas mileage are either driving the car way to hard or not using premium fuel, which is clearly stated for maximum performance by VW. I am getting about 21 city and 28 highway. I really do think this car has plenty of space. THe back seats have lots of leg room (Not sure why other guy doesn't think so). Yes, the rear cargo area is a little small, but that is why you're buying this car instead of an Explorer! Don't expect the room of an full size SUV when buying a compact SUV and then complain about it. All seats are very comfortable and it is easy to find a nice driving position. The car is very sporty to drive, and handles like a car. The giant sunroof option is great, and even with the shade closed, gives the car an open and airy feel. My only complaint about this car right now is the stereo system. Even with the upgraded navigation system, the stereo is weak and the speakers are pretty terrible. They really should put the Dynaudio system in the SE Trim level when you get navigation. The nice thing is because the cabin is so quiet, you don' thave to blast the radio, so I've gotten used to it. Other than that, if you're looking for a sporty, fun to drive CUV that stands out from the other CR-V's and RAV-4's on the road, be sure to drive this one. Opt for the SE or higher trim level, because the S level is pretty basic. Oh, and it was just named a top safety pick by the IIHS...take that Toyota!

One very solid car
Very well made.Very good road handling.Fantastic economy on motorway. It took me only a full tank of petrol from London to Lyon in France.Sixth gear is very economical. All of all this is on of the best car I have ever owned.Great job Volkswagen however you need to offer more standard equipment like touch screen stereo, parking sensors, mudflaps, front fog lights and tinted glasses if you want us to come back to you again & again.

Euro Style and Performance
I'm usually very pragmatic about my car purchases. I tend to buy a car that is first-and-foremost reliable and functional and to keep the car for a long time. (I just traded in my 97 CRV, purchased new.) So when I was looking for a new small SUV, I checked out the usual suspects, Subaru Forrester, RAV4, etc. When I first saw the Tiguan, the pragmatic side of me said "enough room for the kids" and "small and practical for the city." Then I took it for a test-drive and fell in love. I got in the front seat and was impressed by the fit and finish, more like a mercedes than a plasticky SUV. Then I looked up and saw the huge sunroof (it spans the whole car and has a built-in powered sun-shade) and I thought Wow, it's like having a convertible SUV! The real "wow" came when I took one for a test drive. The ride is smooth and quiet, but when you put the pedal down there is plenty of get-up and go. And the driving manners are more sports-sedan than SUV. No real body-lean on turns and very maneuverable. The car's transmission has a "Sport" mode when maximum performance is desired as well as standard "drive." And you can shift it manually with the tiptronic transmision. The only thing I wish it had that it does not (in the U.S.) is a DSG transmission. The VW EOS, Rabbit, and other models offer a combined automatic/manual transmission that shifts very quickly (by having two clutches.) For some reason the U.S. version of the TIG has a Tiptronic which goes through a torque converter and is governed, So you can't shift quite as quickly and it won't let you red-line. Still, it's a wonderful vehicle and we pick ours up at the dealer today. I can't wait. One final comment. Some reviews mention that the car "requires premium fuel." It doesn't require it, and the owners manual says 87 octane is fine. Premium fuel may give slightly better performance and mileage. That is why VW "recommends" it.

CUTTIE PIE
What a cool ute! Handling, comfort, gas, head turner. VW did it! You feel like you are in a giant rabbit or GTI that is surefooted and secure. So you are in an SUV but it is very cool. Try it, you will like it.

A great Small SUV
We were out looking for a used car for myself, and were at a Mazda/VW dealership. We were waiting on some info and were looking around and sat in the Tiguan. Fell in love instantly. We went to a different dealer closer to home and took the car out for a drive. The dealer let us keep it over the weekend and we knew we had to have it. The engine pulls nicely, has nice low end torque and great high end power. The transmission is nice and smooth, we opted for the automatic. The manumatic function is almost as good as rowing the gears with a manual. The fit and finish is great, all of the switchgear is sturdy and has nice looks, the panoramic sunroof is a great option, the sunscreen blocks more than enough sun to not have to worry about it. Panel gaps are non existent and the paint is shiny and has minimal orange peel. Things to change, not too many... A Diesel option would be great, but lets be honest, this isnt Europe and not too many SUV/CUV buyers are looking for a diesel. I am a huge proponent of diesels and would love to see one but I dont know if it would be in VW's best interest. A better traction control system, when giving the Tiguan a heavy foot the front tires will not grip too well. Towing Capacity could be a little better, but 2000 pounds will tow a 17-18 foot boat or a nice trailer, so for most it will work. Things that are good... Gas Mileage, we get almost 29-30 MPG highway and 23-24 MPG city, of course if you get on the gas you will get lower but the engine is very efficient. This is a great size SUV for a small family or couple that doesn't need a huge SUV, but wants more versatility then a sedan can offer. Others cars we have owned, Nissan Altima, Scion xB, Hyundai Sonata V6, and the Tiguan is by far the best. i have driven many types of cars from BMW, Lexus and Audi to other VW's, Toyotas and Mazdas. The Tiguan is a great car that deserves a good long look if you are considering a small SUV or even a Sedan.

Looking for a small SUV? - This is the one!
If you?re looking for a SUV with a lot of cargo space this isn?t it, nor are you going to get stuck with 16 mpg city like those larger SUVs. Also, if you?re looking for more plastic in the interior along with fake chrome you?ll need to look elsewhere. But if you want a quality built compact SUV with decent cargo space that actually accelerates when you push down on the gas and has some real style the Tiguan is for you. It has a fantastic 2.0 turbo and a smooth transmission that give you an excellent ride. If you want a combination of a GTI/Passat in a SUV this is it. The Tiguan has both style and performance and you can get just about every option you need on a standard Tiguan S with AT6. Even the stock radio/CD/mp3 along with 8 speakers provides great sound.

Tiguan - hopefully more to come?
VW needs to put a TDI engine in the Tigual that gets 30-35 mpg. Otherwise, it's much too small and only holds 4 adults...and still get's low 20s for mpg. If this smaller SUV had a TDI engine and got a lot better mpg, then I wouldn't feel so bad moving to a much smaller SUV, with very small seats, and a very small cargo area......
