Passat GT - almost-sporty family car
October 29, 2018
I know the VW brand from my days back in Europe, where I had 4 cars (Skodas, Seats, VW), so I knew what to expect from a Passat: interior with lot's of space, clear and intuitive design, etc. and a bit boring on the outside. However, the Passat GT surprised me with one thing: the 3.6l V6 on this baby sounds marvelous and although it doesn't have a turbo, it can still get you in your seat after pushing the pedal. It's not the sportiest of cars in terms of handling, but it works perfectly as a family car with the ability to "growl" a little and leave others in the rear-view mirror when asked to do so. Fuel efficiency may not be ideal, but it's acceptable for a 3.6l.
What could be better? Two things: 1. Suspension+tire combination could be better. 2. There should be a wagon available in the US.
That would have been a killer deal!
Overall: won't blow your mind, but will suit practically every one of your requirements towards a family sedan.
