I bought a 2006 Honda Pilot for $5,900 almost 3 years ago
I bought a 2006 Honda Pilot for $5,900 almost 3 years ago and thought I was getting a good car. The seller advertised he was selling it for his mother and she was the second owner. I very foolishly did not look underneath at the frame. We had the car a week and the radiator blew. I took it to my mechanic to fix and I also needed a state inspection sticker as the car did not have one. He did the inspection after replacing the radiator and discovered very extensive frame rust. He said the car could break at any time and wasn't safe to drive. I bought the car fax after the sale and discovered the seller had bought the car at an auction two weeks before selling it to me. I paid a frame shop $3,000 to spend two months rebuilding the frame. I was told last summer that the rear subframe is in very dangerous condition, but I kept driving it out of necessity. One back wheel has been at an angle for the past year, and I've spent $400 trying to fix that. After even more issues arose and the car became undrivable, I got an estimate last week to correctly fix the rear subframe for $3,500. This car only blue books for around $2,500 to $4,000 in good condition, so I can't really justify paying to fix it. I now have to junk a car that runs fine for the most part, you have to ignore some noises, all because the frame is so rotted. Honda has even done a recall on some years for frame issues, but not the 2006 sadly. I have always heard Hondas are great, but this was my first and likely last Honda.

Great car, 246,560 on the dash and have never broken down once. I got it used at 200,000 miles and runs great. Doesn’t get good gas miles

380,000 miles
Fwd 380,000 miles original motor and transmission. Throwing a code for catalyst system ran some cleaner through it. Seemed to clear up the code. Still runs and shifts just fine. Has plenty of power and reliable. Just have to watch out for the rear cradle rotting out if you are in the rust belt. If you buy a clean one do some rust prevention in the rear control arms. Timing belts suck. But most vehicles aren't gonna give you such dependability. If you are looking for a vehicle and don't mind keeping up with scheduled maintenance look no further.
