If you're thinking to yourself, "Gee, this new Genesis looks an awful lot like a Hyundai," it's not just your imagination. Hyundai at the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit revealed the 2017 Genesis G90.

(car engine starts) Hyundai has a new luxury brand called Genesis and its flagship model is the new G90. A car that used to be the Hyundai Equis but there's more that changed than just the name. Upfront it's hard to tell this used to be the Equis.
The Equis sort of forgettable grill is gone here. Replaced by a much bolder design that's lower and stretches all the way down, nearly to the bottom of the front bumper. In back you get a few more similarities, especially in terms of the tail lights. There you can sort of tell this used to be an Equis. And the Equis had a pretty nice interior. The G90 really kind of continues that theme. Premium materials here, real leather along the dashboard, the upper sections of the doors here, this redesigned kind of center tunnel here waterfalls a little bit more than the Equis's which surf fell down right there. And it's got a much lower shifter here. It's an electronic shifter. There's a 12.3 inch center display above with a redesigned control knob as well to work most of its menu functions. Lots of amenities available in the back of the G90, heated cooled power adjustable rear seats, rear climate control, though, not separate left and right zones for some reason. Now Hyundai says rear seat passengers have actually lost an inch of leg room back here versus the Equis, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. Tons of room for me and this car is deep powered here at the auto show. So I would actually sit with the seat even farther forward if I was driving. Engines include the Equis five liter V8, as well as a new turbo-charged V6. but the big question is how Hyundai plans to retail this new Genesis brand. We'll find out closer to the G90's on sale date this summer. (trunk closing)
