Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury brand. The Genesis nameplate first arrived in Hyundai dealerships starting with the 2009 model year. At the time, the Hyundai Genesis served as the mainstream automaker’s priciest, most feature-laden sedan.

Yet the South Korean automaker had bigger plans in the works, and in 2015, Genesis was spun off as a stand-alone luxury division. Sales were relatively modest to start, considering the first Genesis lineup consisted solely of the mid-size G80 and full-size G90 sedans. Over time, the luxury brand has added SUVs, electric vehicles and additional sedans to its range.

Genesis has earned praise for its extroverted exterior designs, handsome cabins, powerful engines and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive on much of its lineup. It also has an enviable reputation for delivering vehicles with a generous amount of standard features, as well as for often undercutting the prices of many of its direct rivals — particularly German brands such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi.
