About the video
Getting attention in a city like Los Angeles is always a challenge, but Rivian has done just that with the reveal of its R1T electric pickup truck at the 2018 L.A. Auto Show.
Let's be honest, getting attention here in Los Angeles is incredibly difficult, unless you have a very clever idea.
[Mark] And that's exactly what's happened this year at the 2018 LA Auto Show, where we have seen the Rivian R1T, a pickup truck that I could probably talk about for an hour with all the technology and problem-solving details packed into this mid-sized pickup truck, but let's just pull out some of the highlights, so you can take a closer look. This is a fully-electric vehicle. It's kind of odd to have a grille 'cause you don't have any cooling that's necessary for an engine that's underneath the hood, but they've kept the traditional pickup truck shape of it, and they've put a lot of design attention [Mark] into the front grille. In fact, they have some very cool vertical headlights and a very cool horizontal light bar across the entire width of the vehicle, the middle of which actually turns green when it's plugged in and charging. Underneath that hood is actually a trunk. There's no engine, but you can store a lot of gear under there. One of the coolest features on the R1T is a direct result of the fact that this is just a single continuous body. [Mark] The cabin is connected to the bed itself, which allows for a storage tunnel right through the middle. On each side of the pickup truck, there's an access door you can use as a step or a separate seat, to give you access into the bed or any storage gear you're storing on top of the roof. The bed itself has some very cool features as well. It's composite so it's scratch resistant. [Mark] The spare tire is stored underneath the floor of the bed, full-sized spare. And it also allows for a 115-volt plug, several plugs in fact, three, and also an air compressor outlet, and the tailgate itself drops down 180 degrees to allow you better access for any gear that you have inside. And a cool feature that this vehicle has is a retractable tonneau cover that basically folds and disappears in just a matter of inches, but can cover the entire length of the bed if you wanna protect anything from the weather. Inside, it's exactly what you would expect for a 70 or $80,000 pickup truck. Amazing leather, incredible attention to detail, and some amazing technology that's all put on giant information screens. This vehicle isn't available until 2020, but you can put $1,000 deposit down to reserve one for yourself. If you wanna know more about this vehicle, go to pickuptrucks.com.
