The 10 cars you’ll find in our roundup of bargain-basement buys were selected according to their base price (including destination charge), with an available automatic transmission as a prerequisite. They range from $17,600 to $22,115 and include specified trim levels of compact cars ranging from the 2023 Mitsubishi Mirage to the 2023 Subaru Impreza. For the full details on each of these inexpensive automobiles — including their respective prices, destination charges and fuel economy ratings — follow the link below to the No. 2 news story of the week.
In other news of particular interest to the budget-conscious, we’ve got a “good news/bad news” scenario for would-be Tesla shoppers. The good news: The luxury electric carmaker announced a rare discount totaling $7,500 on its Model 3 compact sedan and Model Y compact SUV. The bad news: You needed to have taken delivery of your new Tesla by Dec. 31. (That’s a bummer if you’re just now reading this, but let that be a reminder to you to keep up with Cars.com’s automotive news reporting.)
Presumably, Tesla was hoping to juice up its end-of-year sales report by moving some additional units considering it was the second time in December the discount-averse automaker offered a price cut, doubling the first break of $3,750. It also coincides with a delay in the overhaul of the $7,500 federal tax credit on EV purchases that has been met by canceled or delayed orders by circumspect buyers as well as mounting inventory. (No word yet on whether Tesla honcho Elon Musk will also be offering a similar discount on Twitter blue check marks.)
For the full scoop on the Model 3 and Model Y markdowns — including an additional offer of 10,000 miles of free Supercharging — follow the link below to our No. 4 news story of the week.
