10 Biggest News Stories of the Week: Ram 1500 Puts Brakes on Hyundai Santa Fe
Being told you’re one in a million is usually a compliment. But if your Ram 1500 is one in a million — actually, 1.2 million, to be exact — you’re going to want to hold the compliments until after Ram manufacturer Stellantis fixes your antilock braking system. That’s because the automaker is recalling that number of Ram 1500 half-ton pickup trucks from the 2019 and 2021-24 model years due to an ABS software issue that could disable the vehicle’s electronic stability control system, increasing the risk of a crash.
As reported in Cars.com’s most read article of the past week, Stellantis will begin notifying owners in early October, and dealers will update the ABS control module software for free. Owners with questions in the meantime can contact the automaker or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In other news, the Hyundai Santa Fe returns for the 2024 model year with an against-the-grain redesign that eschews the tired styling of most modern SUVs in favor of a brawny, boxy silhouette and square-jawed countenance. Our reviewers liked what they saw in the new Santa Fe, notably its passenger space in all three rows, accommodating everyone from big people to babies; substantially improved cargo space and loading ease; console featuring multiple storage solutions for passengers in both the first and second rows; interior design, outward visibility and infotainment tech; cushy ride, confident handling and all-around heft; and competitive starting price. We were less enthused about the mid-size SUV’s poky power-folding second-row captain’s chairs, as well as its decreased driving fun and fuel-economy penalty that accompany its otherwise advantageous weight gain.
