Given the popularity of the class, our comparison in March of seven compact SUVs was probably the most important multicar test Cars.com conducted this year. Power for the Tiguan comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine good for 184 horsepower and 221 pounds-feet of torque. The sole engine also has only one transmission choice, an eight-speed automatic, to send power to the drive wheels. Shoppers do get a choice of front- or all-wheel drive to go along with a number of trim options, and an optional third row of seats ups the seating capacity from five to seven.

As we move toward the 2020 model year and beyond, Volkswagen is not just updating its look with a new logo and new R logo for R and R-Line models — the Tiguan R-Line is mostly an appearance package — but it’s also adding more active-safety features as standard equipment.

If you’re thinking about buying a Tiguan, we’ve got a wealth of information for you. Check out everything you need to know about the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan below.
