2023 Honda Civic Type R Price Clocks in at $43,990
With the 2023 Honda Civic Type R’s imminent arrival, the automaker has announced pricing for the performance-oriented hatchback. While its upgraded engine might make it the most powerful Civic yet, the Type R is also the least affordable: It will start at $43,990 (including a $1,095 destination charge) when it hits dealerships.

Power, Tech and Safety Upgrades
According to Honda, the latest Civic Type R is its most powerful production vehicle. The redesign gives the hatchback’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine a power boost to 315 horsepower and 310 pounds-feet of torque, up from 306 hp and 300 pounds-feet in the previous Type R and notably higher than the standard Civic hatchback’s 180 hp and 188 pounds-feet. The engine is once again mated to a six-speed manual transmission; no automatic is available. Automaker-estimated fuel economy is 22/28/24 mpg city/highway/combined.
New tech features are geared for performance driving. A standard 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster incorporates a tachometer, gear position and rev indicator. The LogR Performance Datalogger is now built into the vehicle instead of as a stand-alone app. A larger 9-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation, wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is standard. What doesn’t change is the Honda Sensing safety suite, which returns to include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and brake assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure steering assist, traffic sign recognition and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
In addition to the performance upgrades, the hot hatch’s starting price includes exclusive high-bolstered sport seats with red and black suede upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and unique badging. Five exterior paint color options also are available: Crystal Black Pearl, Rallye Red, Championship White, Sonic Gray Pearl and Boost Blue Pearl.
Release Date, Versus the Competition
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is expected to arrive Friday. Its nearly $44,000 starting price is expectedly costlier than the 2023 Civic hatch and Civic Si sedan — which start at $26,545 and $29,195, respectively — but it also falls on the higher end among key rivals: The 2022 Subaru WRX currently starts at $30,600, the 2023 Toyota GR86 at $28,995 and the 2023 Volkswagen Golf R at $45,385.
