Along with the updated gas-powered 2025 Ram 1500 and already-revealed 2025 Ram REV all-electric pickup truck, Ram has revealed an in-between option for customers: the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which incorporates electric drive modules with an onboard generator, the latter powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 gasoline engine. The result is a light-duty full-size pickup with targeted specs of 663 horsepower and 615 pounds-feet of torque and an estimated 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds, along with a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.

But what about range, you ask? Well, according to Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, the battery-electric range is “unlimited.” Ram also lists the maximum range for the Ramcharger at up to 690 miles. That is … well, it’s certainly a whole lot of range, but also not unlimited.

Not a Plug-in Hybrid, Not a Gas Vehicle, Not All-Electric

The basic premise of the Ramcharger is that its two electric drive modules — a 250-kilowatt unit on the front axle and a 238-kW unit on the rear — are powered by a 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack. These drive modules drive the truck, as the name suggests. The interesting thing about the Ramcharger is that rather than solely relying on home or public infrastructure to recharge the battery pack, there’s a 3.6-liter Pentastar gas V-6 also under the hood; in fact, Ram says it had to do some design adjustments to the gas engine to make it fit with the front electric drive module.

The gas engine is not directly connected to the wheels, however. Instead, it generates mechanical power that is sent to a 130-kW onboard generator, which converts it into electric power. That electric power, in turn, can be used either to recharge the battery pack or to power the drive modules directly and preserve battery power.

Ram has yet to provide specifications regarding how long the onboard generator can power the electric drive modules or how quickly it replenishes battery power, but the brand did share that the Ramcharger can use 400-volt DC fast charging at up to 145 kW to add up to 50 miles of range in as little as 10 minutes (in ideal conditions). Ram did not share Level 2 home-charging statistics, either, though according to the brand, vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-home charging are possible.

The Ramcharger comes standard with an adjustable air suspension with five settings: Entry/Exit, Aero, Normal, Off-Road 1 and Off-Road 2. For added efficiency, the front electric drive module can disconnect from the axle to let the wheels spin freely, relying exclusively on the rear module for motive force and saving energy. One-pedal driving is also possible. An electronic locking rear differential is available, and the truck can also be had with Level 2 hands-free driving systems.

Unique Exterior Looks

The Ramcharger will be available in five trim levels. The new Tungsten trim sits atop the lineup, and buyers can also choose from Limited, Laramie, Bighorn and Tradesman grades. Exterior styling cues include body-color front styling, large Ram badging that illuminates and pulsates when charging, and a charge port on the driver-side front quarter panel. In back, LED taillights extend onto the tailgate.

Luxurious Interior

We’ve often praised Ram for its luxurious pickup interiors, and that trend continues here. The Tungsten trim includes a unique two-tone interior with authentic metal accents, suede trim and Natura Plus leather upholstery. On the tech front, a 14.5-inch touchscreen display with the latest UConnect 5 system is available, and the driver gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. As in other higher-end Stellantis vehicles, a 10.25-inch front passenger display screen is also available. Additionally, the Tungsten trim includes a 23-speaker Klipsch stereo as standard.
