What’s New for the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

Chevrolet’s Silverado is one of the bestselling full-size pickup trucks in the world, a perennial favorite among American shoppers and the arch rival of the crosstown champ, the Ford F-150. Available in different lengths and trims and with a variety of powertrains, it can be anything from a basic work truck to a leather-lined luxury yacht to a crazy-capable off-road monster truck. For the 2025 model year, Chevy has kept updates to just some new colors and changes in standard equipment across the Silverado 1500 lineup. We outline them for you below and let you know if you’re better off buying a 2024 or 2025 model.

What’s New for 2025?
For the new model year, changes are minimal. When we said it was limited to just some color and options changes, that wasn’t an exaggeration. Two new colors have appeared: Cypress Gray and Riptide Blue. Other than that, it’s just a set of targeted changes to standard and optional equipment for 2025: New 20-inch high-gloss black wheels are available, cruise control is now standard on the base Work Truck trim, the trailer brake controller is now standard on the LT trim and above, and the ZR2 off-road trim gets both premium audio and front and rear parking sensors as standard equipment.
Trim Levels and Pricing
The 2025 Silverado 1500 is available in no fewer than nine trim levels: WT (Work Truck), Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, High Country and ZR2. Rear-wheel drive is standard on six of them (WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, RST and High Country), while four-wheel drive is standard on the off-road-oriented Trail Boss variants and the ZR2; 4WD is optional on any trim where RWD is standard. Three cab styles are available — regular cab (two-door), double cab (two full doors, two shorter ones) and crew cab (four full-sized doors) — but not all cabs are available on all trim levels. Three bed lengths are also available (short, standard and long), but their availability is also restricted to certain trims and certain cab sizes.
Prices by trim level below include a hefty $1,995 destination fee; changes from 2024 pricing are in parentheses:
- WT: $38,995 for RWD (up $200), $43,595 for 4WD (up $200)
- Custom: $45,595 for RWD (no change), $48,895 for 4WD (no change)
- Custom Trail Boss: $53,795 (4WD only, no change)
- LT: $50,095 for RWD (up $100), $53,395 for 4WD (up $100)
- RST: $53,495 for RWD (up $100), $54,395 for 4WD (up $100)
- LT Trail Boss: $60,795 (4WD only, up $800)
- LTZ: $59,695 for RWD (up $500), $62,995 for 4WD (up $500)
- High Country: $64,695 for RWD (no change), $68,195 for 4WD (no change)
- ZR2: $71,995 (4WD only, up $100)
Powertrain Specs and MPG
The Silverado 1500’s four available powertrains carry over from 2024. Most trim levels come with the base 310-horsepower, turbocharged 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder engine that puts out 430 pounds-feet of torque. Also available are a 5.3-liter V-8 (355 hp, 383 pounds-feet), 6.2-liter V-8 (420 hp, 460 pounds-feet) and turbo-diesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder (305 hp, 495 pounds-feet). The four-cylinder is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission; the other engines get a 10-speed automatic.

The tow ratings for all Silverados range from 8,800 pounds to 13,300 pounds and are unchanged from the truck’s last major redo for 2022. You can read more details here.
Fuel economy ratings for the 2025 Silverado 1500 vary with the range of cab, bed, equipment, weight and tire combinations, so it’s best to check the sticker on the specific truck. The ratings are unchanged from 2024. The powertrain mileage leader is the turbo-diesel, which has EPA ratings ranging from 21 mpg combined for the 4WD-only ZR2 off-road variant to a high of 26 mpg combined in a civilian RWD truck. The gasoline turbo 2.7-liter four-cylinder ranges from 16 mpg combined in a 4WD with mud tires to 19 mpg in a RWD truck. The venerable 5.3-liter V-8 engine ranges from 15 mpg combined in a 4WD chassis cab to 18 mpg with RWD, and the stout 6.2-liter V-8, offered with 4WD only, ranges from 15-17 mpg combined on a strict diet of premium fuel.
Tech Features
Standard on the 2025 Silverado’s base WT trim level is a 7-inch multimedia display with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay; it also gets the capability to access GM’s OnStar connected vehicle communication system. All but the WT, Custom and Custom Trail Boss have a standard 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen that features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus Google Built-In, which includes Google Assistant.
Available features include a configurable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a Bose premium audio system. Among trailering tech options is the aforementioned trailer brake controller; a hitch-guiding backup camera that helps drivers line up the hitch with a trailer and can provide a view of the trailer while driving; a Hitch View camera with close-up images of the hitch; and an Auxiliary Trailer Camera that can show the road behind the trailer or even a view inside the trailer. A lower-tech but useful option is the Multi-Flex Tailgate.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Standard on all trim levels is the Chevy Safety Assist bundle of safety and driver-assistance features. The suite includes automatic emergency braking with front pedestrian braking, forward collision warning, a following distance indicator, lane departure steering assist and automatic high beams. Also standard is a rear seat belt warning system.
The most notable optional driver-assist tech for the Silverado is GM’s Super Cruise system, which allows hands-free cruise control on compatible mapped roads. The system will not only change lanes automatically when you tap the turn-signal stalk, it also will change lanes without you doing anything if it “sees” slower traffic ahead and detects space in the adjacent lane, then moves back into the prior lane after passing.
Among other notable options, depending on trim level, are a 360-degree camera system, rear cross-traffic braking, a rear pedestrian alert, front and rear parking sensors, enhanced automatic emergency braking that works from 2 mph, a blind spot monitor, a trailer blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, bed and trailer cameras, trailer tire pressure and heat sensors, and a rear camera mirror.
Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
Given that almost nothing of substance has changed from the 2024 to 2025 model year (including the prices, which have largely held the line from the prior year), unless you’ve gotta have one of the two new colors or you can’t find the configuration you want on a dealer lot, go for the 2024 model as it will likely be offered at steep discounts on dealer lots as the year comes to a close. However, given that at the time of this writing (mid-December 2024) there are still 11,724 brand-new 2024 Silverado 1500 pickups listed on Cars.com, it seems likely that you’ll be able to find something on sale that suits your needs. When the calendar ticks over into 2025, those discounts will likely get even more hefty, as there are over 37,000 2025 models also listed on dealer lots. Find one that’s sitting around toward the end of this month and get you a bargain truck.
