The Sportage’s powertrains carry over for 2025. Power comes from a 187-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission or two hybrid powertrains, each based on a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder and paired with two electric motors and a six-speed automatic. The hybrid makes 227 hp combined, while the PHEV makes a total of 261 hp. Front- and all-wheel drive are available on the gas and hybrid models; AWD is standard on the PHEV.

The base FWD variant of the 2025 Sportage is good for an EPA-estimated 25/32/28 mpg city/highway/combined, which drops to 23/27/25 mpg with AWD or 23/30/26 mpg for the X-Pro trim levels. The FWD hybrid is rated 42/44/43 mpg (AWD drops figures to 38/38/38 mpg), and the plug-in version has an 84 mpg-equivalent rating and 35 mpg combined rating; it’s good for up to 34 miles of all-electric range.

Should You Buy a 2024 or 2025 Kia Sportage?

With similar prices between the two model years, there’s no major reason to opt for the 2025 Sportage over the 2024 version, unless you’re interested in the newly available Premium Package. However, Sportage shoppers might want to wait a bit until the revised 2026 model comes out. It features updates such as tweaked styling, infotainment upgrades and slightly more horsepower.

In Cars.com reviews of the Sportage, editors praised it as a likeable compact SUV that offers shoppers a lot of choice as well as an appealing blend of comfort, efficiency and value, though the base engine stood out as slow and unrefined.
