Expert 2014 Bentley Continental GT review

Vehicle Overview

The four-seat Bentley Continental GT’s formidable power is part of its appeal, but so is the range of interior choices that give owners the ability to personalize their car. Competitors include the Aston Martin DB9 and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

(Skip to details on the: Continental GT Speed)

The Continental GT’s exterior has a distinctive front end with four circular lights and a mesh-style grille that drops over the front bumper. Around back, there are prominent flared rear fenders as well as twin oval exhaust tips on 12-cylinder models.  The interior features a leather-trimmed dashboard, an 8-inch touch-screen for the navigation and entertainment systems, available massaging front seats and automatic air conditioning.

The twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 is nearly as powerful as the 12-cylinder engine. It’s rated at 500 horsepower and 487 pounds-feet of torque. Bentley claims the V-8 coupe can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph. Under light loads, half of the V-8’s cylinders are automatically deactivated to reduce fuel consumption.

The Continental GT’s optional twin-turbo 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine is rated at 567 hp and 516 pounds-feet of torque. Bentley claims the engine can accelerate the coupe to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 198 mph. Both engines team with an all-wheel-drive system that has a rear-biased torque split of 40/60, front to rear, to reduce understeer.
Continental GT Speed
The Continental GT Speed is a high-performance version of the 12-cylinder Continental GT. It has a top speed of 205 mph. The sprint to 60 mph takes just 4 seconds, according to the automaker.

The Continental GT Speed is powered by a 616-hp, twin-turbo 6.0-liter 12-cylinder that makes 590 pounds-feet of torque. Compared to the regular Continental GT, the steering and suspension systems are unique and the ride height is lower. High-performance tires go on 21-inch wheels. Back to top

  • 2014 Continental GTC V8

Purchased the car locally end of year price far below the stated MSRP. Beautiful car with many options. The car feels like it fits like a leather glove. Paint work is flawless; no orange peel and the interior is mostly leather. The performance for the GTC V8 is remarkable for a 5300 pound car, it is there when you need it. The noise level with the top up is as advertised; quiet and tight, no perceivable wind noise. Fit and finish impeccable, not a lot of room in the two back seats. Overall a 5 star car with minor points loss for lack of blind side assist and lack of any 3-5 year prepaid maintenance.

  • Amazing car, Amazing deal

I saw a 2014 Bentley GTC on Cars.com and sent in an inquiry. The next day, Greg at the Bentley dealership called me and we worked a deal on the car over the phone and internet. All the paper work was done over the internet and through overnight mail. The vehicle was trucked to me from Atlanta to south Florida with a terrific driver to deliver the car to me. I would do business with this dealership anytime.
