Great Truck

I bit the bullet and converted from being a loyal Tacoma owner. Although I loved the Tacoma I had for 12 years, the 2016 Colorado I bought (4WD, crew cab, Z71) has given me excellent mileage (22-24 mpg on highway), has fabulous electronics (bluetooth, navigation, Pandora, etc.), drives great off-road and carries big loads, and has a nice factory ladder rack that carries a ton of stuff. Also, the bed is deeper than the Tacoma bed. It was hard to switch from Toyota, but after a year of driving my Colorado I am very impressed and happy with the choice I made. My only complaint is with the plastic wind shield they bolted to the bottom of the front bumper. When I go off-road, it catches on stuff and it even caught on a Costco parking barrier once. It can be easily removed, and if you take it off, the Colorado has an excellent approach angle for off-roading.

Good Trade

Traded from a bigger Silverado after it outgrew me. Got a much more stylish truck with a little less capacity that I no longer use, but I can still haul a small load with, if necessary. Chevy has made great strides in interior quality and design in the 5 years since I bought the Silverado. For a little over $30k you get a truck every bit as tricked out as the nicest Silverado, F-150, or Ram costing almost $25k more. The only thing I sort of miss is the kick-butt power of the Silverado's 5.3L engine. On the other hand, I traded an overall 16.5mpg for an overall 22.5mpg, so far.

Best midsize truck available

I just took delivery of my Colorado LT, 2.5 2wd, extended cab. I bought it out of state and drove it home across 6 states over 2 days. The trip allowed me to get familiar with the truck quickly and frankly, I was impressed. I have owned a number of pickups in past. I'm coming out of an 08 Silverado LT. I have also owned an '04 Colorado Z71 Extended with the 3.5l 5 cyl and a '98 S10. I had some concerns with going to the smaller 4cyl, especially when it comes to driving on the NJ Turnpike. Anyone who lives here knows that people drive fast and are aggressive (especially near NYC). I wasn't disappointed. The vehicle is really comfortable and GM has worked some magic with the drivetrain. The Colorado definitely holds its own, has more than enough power to merge and keep up with traffic. The bumper steps are a godsend. A trip to the Home Depot yesterday, loading a large Jobbox into the bed was easy. I'm getting 22mpg around town, which is spectacular for a pickup. On the long, two day drive around the Great Lakes was a pleasure at 80mph and averaged just under 26mpg. I haven't towed anything yet, but typically I'll pull a small horse trailer, well within the towing capacity. CarPlay was worth the price of admission. Having my Apple Maps on the 8 inch screen was beautiful. The head unit was intuitive and a breeze to use. The interior is excellent, with comfortable seats. The cabin and switchgear was very well thought out. Fit and finish is nothing short of perfect. The sheetmetal and trim is high quality and the paint job looks like something you'd see on a much more expensive vehicle. Give Kudos to GM for a perfectly executed small truck. In my opinion, the new Tacoma isn't even close. If you're a weekend warrior like me, it just doesn't get better than the Colorado!

poorly engineered not reliable. 4 repair attempts

We pick this truck up for my wife in April 2016 and it was great until at about 500 or 600 miles the stereo started to act up, so i took it back to the dealer to have it looked at. They kept the truck a week then and returned it to me without fixing the stereo. I was told, "that was how it was designed to work." Second problem is more serious at about 3000 miles MY wife notice the transmission was NOT wanting to down shift, as it was her truck I didn't really notice until about a 1000 miles later when instead of down shifting the truck would vibrate, I took it back to the dealership and was told that was normal and if I didn't like it to drive it manual mode or tow haul mode. The next my wife and I was on vacation and going to the Smoky mountains. The truck wouldn't down shift on the interstate and was have a hard time keeping speeds above 55 or 60, so we stopped at the closest dealership in knoxville .They looked at it and told us that the transmission wasn't shifting correctly and they thought they had fixed it so we left happy .The truck did fine for about 30 miles then started acting worse It would shake have when trying to down shift .As we where trying to go over the mountains the truck did not want to go faster than 30 so we had to drive on the shoulder with the flashers on getting past by older model cars . It would then shift so hard (comparable to a motor mount being broken) IT WAS JERKING. This truck is rated at over 300 hp and we purchased to pull a camper but it can't even pull itself. Gm has been no help. They just keep saying the truck is acting as designed. We are still trying to get it fixed (4 TIMES ALREADY), bought back or something. So If you need a truck for work or more than just to drive around town stay way from chevy they don't back what they build .

Best Chevrolet pickup I've ever owned.

I bought it from a Watsonville GM dealer and was pleased with the sales staff. The truck is a V6 powered extended cab. It performs excellently with the 305 hp. engine. I tried the 4 cylinder, but prefer the V6 power and economy. It is a very comfortable ride compared to Silverado, S-10, and previous Colorado models. An excellent value for the money. Plenty of room, only slightly smaller than full size, but well designed. I drive a fair amount and own a Cadillac CTS. This truck is almost as comfortable and quiet. Very happy with the truck. The windshield had to be replaced because of a defect, but still extremely happy with it.

Best Small Truck In The Current U.S. Market

I just passed 1340 miles on my new 2016 Chevrolet Colorado 4X4 Z71 with the V6 and automatic transmission. The interior is roomier than my 2005 Ford Ranger, but I did notice that on washboard roads there are more interior rattles/sqeeks in the new Colorado than there are in my 11 year old Ranger. Lots of plastic pieces scraping and vibrating against each other may be the issue. The noise level on paved roads is much lower than any other trucks I have driven and that includes just about every make and model made for the past 15 years. I purchased the optional Bose stereo which sounds very nice, but does not have HD radio capability, which seems amazing considering that the infotainment system (Chevrolet calls it that) has Navigation, Sirius XM, On-Star, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability; very disappointing to me but I should have verified that point before I decided on the radio system. There is one other more expensive radio option and maybe that option has HD radio. The inner fenders seem to be made of resin impregnated cardboard. I have already damaged one by running over a small limb that stuck in my tire tread and then punched a hole right through the front inner fender: not the kind if thing you want to happen on a brand new 4X4 truck. The exterior design is (to me) quite stylish. The factory light bar is really nice and begs to be upgraded by those who are in love with lights. The integrated red Colorado lettering, for example, could be lit up by an aftermarket LED kit quite readily if one had the desire to do so. The engine compartment is well laid out and owners can easily check fluids or do basic maintenance. I do prefer the Ford method of placing all of the wiring harness connections on the upper firewall though. The Colorado still has the old wiring harness through the firewall grommet setup. The transmission feels smooth most of the time but does feel like it is unsure what gear it needs to be in during mild acceleration from a stoplight or when speeding up between 30-50 mph. I do have the traction control, towing, and downhill buttons on the dashboard but I have not experimented with them much yet to see if they help the transmission feel. The engine is smooth and has plenty of power. I cannot yet give a meaningful reliability rating. Everything is working properly, so I gave the truck average and that is certainly what I would expect as a minimum from a new vehicle. I would buy this truck again if I could do it over because it is a much better value for the money than any of the other vehicles in the mid-size truck category. I would also tell my friends to go and take a serious look at the other two trucks currently in the U.S. mid-size truck category (GMC Canyon is the same truck so does not count) before buying and I am sure they will be of the same opinion.

So far, it's perfect

We've only had the truck for two weeks and she has about 800 miles on her. Traded our 2007 Hummer H3 with 99k miles on it (after two new intake manifolds...which the second one was already making the engine sputter)......Got the 2016 Z71 Midnight Edition (they didn't have a 4x4 in stock)...the Silverado I loved in the midnight edition was well over 60K, so this truck being mid-30K was VERY doable! My husband was in Tampa when the H3 was giving him issues so he happened to find this gem at the dealership and I told him he better not come home without her. :) I also drive a 96 Sonoma (basically turned it into a midnight edition) and the Colorado is the perfect addition to our family! So far, the gas mileage has been incredible, the comfort is amazing, and even without the Bose sound system option, the stereo rocks and she looks so sexy driving around! The iphone hook ups are a must! Still learning the ins and outs of the controls and MyLink, and found out really quick that if we want to keep the seats in perfect condition, we will need to get some black running boards....I feel like when I get in and out, I'm smooshing the side of the seat and eventually will affect the structure of it. I'm 5'6 and my husband is 6'3 and we have no issues with being comfortable. We also needed a truck that would hold all 3 of our dogs. I had to take one to the vet today, and she seemed happier to be in it than she ever was in the Hummer. I'm a GM/Chevy girl for life! Thanks Chevy for making a truck that my husband fits in (my standard cab manual tranny Sonoma is a bit cramped for the hubby)! I will definitely make another review once we get her to the beach and ride with passengers to see how they like it too!
