A really good car Part 2
Our 2003 Impala LS now has around 115k miles on it. It continues to be very reliable for us. Still getting good gas mileage. We did have to have some work done on one of the front wheels last year--maybe something to do with the bearings--but the repairs were not that expensive. Our 3.8L has, to date, had no engine issues that some of the others reviewers have mentioned. I would buy this car again in a heart beat--and so would my wife. Definitely prefer it to my '06 Grand Prix. Much more comfortable riding and it gets better MPG.

Reliable...but
I drive the base with the 3.8 litre 6. Bought it used in 2004 when it had 25K miles. 18 months later, after highway driving, I had to replace the tranny @ 79K. It is functional as a sales car and as comfortable it can be for a big guy like me. Consistent issue: front rotors warping. Replaced cooling fans (the whole assembly!) There's 186,000 miles on the car and yes, it is reliable despite the demons. Fuel econ averages <> 22 mpg...

Problems after 85,000 miles.
I purchased this vehichle brand new in 2003. To date (Jan. 2008) I have had the car in the shop 4 times. Intake manifold gasket repair, multiple valves needing replaced, coolant/oil needing flushed due to the intake manifold failure. This should not be happening on a vehichle at only 85,000 miles. Intak manifold gaskets, I have read, are a major concern in cheverolet vehichles. My family will never purchase another chev. vehichle again.

A really good vehicle
Our 2003 Impala LS is going on 4 years of service and has around 70k miles on it. I have changed the oil on it every 5k miles. We have had no problems with it. The salesman told us before we bought it we would we get 30 MPG on the highway. I didn't really believe him, until we drove to Florida and did get 30 MPG. It also does pretty good around the city. The only problem we have is that there is no child safety locks on the back doors--they are controlled through the radio...which makes no sense to this parent of two. The original sticker was high, but because of a variety of discounts, the vehicle became a very good value compared to a comparably equipped import. I wish GM built more vehicles like this one...but in the USA.

This car is not so good for sales work.
The 03 Impala that I drive is a fleet car used for the sale of Electrical supplies to the utiltiy industry. Fuel Economy rating is 5 stars, Excellent for its class. ON the down side, this car has a nasty habit of wiping out tires quickly, it is on it's third set, and will need a new set in about 1 to 2 months. The car was not ment to have a trunk full of catalogs in it all the time. This car is my office. I will give it a 5 star rating for safty in a crash. 3 star rating for safty over all.. If this car had anti lock breaks and tracktion control it would get a 5 star rating for safty. The only way to offset the missing anti lock breaks and traction control is to put on high preformance all season radial tires. This has been the most reliable Chevrolett I have driven, however it has had it's set of draw backs as well. The emmission system has a valved located behind the left rear tire, and it fills with dirt and debres and will caus this to fail at around 90kmiles to 110k miles. It is also advised that you have the transmission filter and oil changed every 80 to 90 thouand miles, or expect it to not shift properly with in 10 to 20 k miles after that. This car has 167,000 miles on it to date.
