Best truck I've owned
I've had this truck for about three months and I love it. I live in Maine and had a regular cab truck that had this much control in the snow. I use this truck for many purposes form towing a trailer that meant and loaded for a super duty truck, to my commute to work, to a bit of off-roading every now and then. It is only the basic model with the V6 4.3L engine but it's drives through 2-3 feet of snow like I was on a tar road. For a full-sized half ton it doesn't drive like one, the ride is smooth like that of a cadiallac's and very tight turning radius compared to my uncle's 2000 model that is essentially the same as mine. There is minimal to none as far as engine noise (Purrs like a kitten) Pro's 1.Vinyl flooring that is very easy to clean (soapy rag and its good as new) 2.very comfortable 60:40:60 bucket seats (also with vinyl leather) 3.Four on the floor (Stick shifter to toggle 4X4, prefered over buttons) 4.New body style 5.Rugged (haven't found a back woods road thats beat my truck yet) 6. I like the 4-speed transmission for when I haul the trailer that I have(4-5 tons when loaded), plenty of torque to get the job done. Con's 1.Would have liked an in dash cup holder 2.Really had to crank up the torsion bars so I would stop sliding forward in my seat 3. 4X4 does not want to activate when it is below -20 F, and have to wait for a while for it to lock in 4. Crank for roll up window seem quite flimsy, very low quality plastic compared to everything esle in the cab 5.Lag in the throttle, I had this adjusted a month after I bought the truck. I put in some after market fuel injectors and throttle body that constricted les on t he motor allowing it to meet my quality of acceleration 6.I wish they would have made a 6-speed auto trans for the models, just for the fact of when I am on the highway shifts from fourth to third with any small movement of my foot on the throttle. (thinking about getting a chip to fix that)

Complete Shock
I am still in shock over the death of my 2006 Chevy Silverado. I have always owned a chevy truck with no problems like the one I have now. I bought my 2006 right off the lot brand new and drove it well for 5 years. Sadly, I have learned that after 99,000 miles, my valves are warped and damage done. Case closed. Either a rebuilt or new engine will do which makes no sense on a truck with its current worth. Mechanic says Im the 3rd Silverado this year he has seen with this issue. If your looking for reliability in a truck, I have lost faith in the Chevy Silverado.

Unhappy Bowtie
I purchased my 06 in 2005. It only had 11,000 miles on it and I fell in love the moment I saw it... and that was the problem. It was black, 20" chrome Chevy wheels, leather with heated seats, cd changer, and a sunroof. I took it for a test drive and it was pretty bumpy... but all I could think about how it looked and all the options. This truck rides HORRIBLY!!!!! I've taken it to dealer many times and even contacted GM about the bounce because it can be dangerous at times by almost losing control. I was told by GM that it's just how the truck is and they won't do anything about it. I have squealing under the hood that the dealers can't seem to fix. My front end knocks, that the dealer can't seem to fix.. My interior lights on radio and other dials went out... and the truck only has 40,000 miles on it. I truly regret buying this truck and I will NEVER purchase a GM vehicle again. Now I know why my dad bought a Toyota and got rid of his GMC..

I hate my truck
Interior ergonomics have deteriorated since this model introduced in 2000. GM service is a total rip-off. This vehicle has been very well Obsolescence Engineered, and the dealers, All of them, are crooks. "Certified" means something quite different to GM than it does to Every Other carmaker. I wish I had bought a Ford. I wish I had bought Japanese!! I was raised in a Chevy family, but after buying a "GM Certified" '06 Silverado (after being semi-satisfied with 12 yrs in a '94 GMC Sierrra), I will NEVER buy another American vehicle of any kind. NEVER.

If comfortable ride is not important...
I love my truck, but the ride is horrific. I truly regret purchasing it. It's very bouncy and rough.

It's a quality truck.
I just purchased a used Silverado Crew Cab 4x4 2LT with 60k miles on it. I traded in a 2006 Colorado crew cab 2WD 1LT model. This is definitely an upgrade. I owned an extended cab 99 silverado work truck so I am familiar with the GMT800 chassis and knew I would like it. I also drove my Dad's '04 Crew Cab 2WD 1LT for a few months a couple years ago. This truck was more than I expected. I started off test driving higher mileage older trucks (99-02) but they were a dime a dozen and it was just too hard to find one that was properly maintained. So I figured I would buck up and spend the money to get a truck that I didn't have to worry about so much and that I could keep well maintained and extend the life. I went all out with the crew cab 4x4 as I was looking at just extended cabs and I am very pleased I did. The four forward opening doors is the greatest invention ever. The seats fold down in the back to provide TONS of cargo room, and great flat surface for the animals. Bed is still large as you only lose 8 inches over the extended cab short bed. And the size of the truck and the power of the 5.3L V8 is astonishing over the 3.5L inline 5 of the colorado. My 99 had the 4.8L V8 which was great but doesn't quite stack up with the 5.3. Also the 2LT sold me. This truck had cloth which I prefer, center console, auto climate control. These perks really sold me on the truck, I really do enjoy the creature comforts provided by a well optioned car, and you can find well optioned ones and enjoy them yourself. In the running were Fords and Dodge's but I just didn't feel comfortable enough to pull the trigger on one. As you can tell I am experienced with GM and Chevy and knew exactly what I was getting into with this truck and I don't regret it one bit. Also the GM Certified used tag add's the 12 month 12k mile bumper to bumper and 100k or March 2011 powertrain coverage, so I also get piece of mind as my Colorado was out of warranty and cost me about 1000 in items that should have been covered (the Colorado is really an Isuzu so I can't fault GM for that).
