Reccomended - FOR YOUR WORST ENEMY
My partner and I paid $10k for a 14,000 mile 2012 Chevy Sonic LT 1.4L and it has been the worst financial investment we have ever made. We have paid over $8k in repairs over the last 18 months (all of the easy stuff, we did ourselves). The parts are made cheaply and it constantly has overheating problems, which causes more parts to fail. I miss my subaru more every day. Wouldnt reccomend to anyone except someone I hate or possibly a toxic ex

transmission went at 80,000
I'm an old man and I drive kind of slow my transmission on my 2012 Chevy Sonic died at 80,000 miles then at 100,000 miles the passenger side motor mount went when I originally bought the car which was about 12 years ago the thermostat housing was cracked right from the factory and it was never recalled it was a common problem right off the assembly line. The thermostat housing was made out of plastic and the people Factory over tightening them and cracking the plastic housing leaving it to the consumer to fix unless they caught it before the $45,000 guarantee ran out I wouldn't buy this car it's nothing but problems

My wish to developers and engineers of Chevrolet
I have a relatively short mileage of 43k. But there are frequent breakdowns. I think in this model there is a lack in the cooling system, which very often gives problems. I'm supporter and fan of American cars. And as a wish to developers and engineers, I would like to direct their attention to refinement in the cooling system. I would like the famous American company to prove the reliability and advantage of national products. Nevertheless, I remain a fan of American cars.

Great, reliable car
I bought my 2012 Sonic used in 2014 with 30,000-ish miles on it. It's getting ready to turn 200,000 and going strong with no major work needed. I've done routine maintenance and replaced the battery once. That's it! I'm a happy customer :)

Fun, fast, cheap, but not made for cold weather
This was the first car I bought! Got it with 86,000 and I've put almost 50,000 over the past 40 months. It's a fully loaded LTZ sedan, complete with 1.4T engine and 6-speed manual transmission. It's a lot of fun for the price. However, DO NOT consider this if you will be doing any snow driving. It has the teeny-tiniest wheel base but it's oddly tall for the rest of the dimensions, and combine that with a sub-3,000lbs curb weight and FWD, you are destined to spin out on snow. In fact, I spun out on the interstate when it was just cold and wet. No snow! Additionally, it has never proven reliable. I've been towed off the shoulder three times and twice was because my coolant was gone (once when the valve cover gasket cracked, another when the thermostat broke. Third was something overheating with the radiator). Could have prevented all of them of there were a coolant gauge! There is also no engine oil gauge; it's basically just RPMs, MPHs, and gas. I also had to get my transmission rebuilt at 128,000 miles. Big oof. The pleather seats tear extremely easy, the blind spots are HUGE, the "premium sound system" is 90% treble, and the bucket seats have negative lower-back support. I'm selling after this winter (which makes four Minneapolis winters!), but I don't expect to get more than a few thousand for it if I'm lucky. All that being said, the turbocharger works very well as long as you're above ~1,200 RPM, and since the engine is so small it's fantastic on gas. I've never dropped below 32 MPG, and I'm definitely not the most efficient driver. You can also fit a surprising amount of cargo inside since the back seats fold down. Again, getting a low mileage, all-options vehicle is rarely cheaper, but you make up for it with trips to the shop and calling AAA to get yourself out of the snowbank on the highway. First time car buyers: there's nothing wrong with a higher mile car as long as it's safe and reliable! (coughHondacough)

Not good.
I'm extremely disappointed with this car. Poor acceleration, especially merging onto the highway. Transmission is really jerky especially at low speeds. I took it back to the dealer twice and they keep telling me there's nothing wrong with. Apparently that's just the way the car is. Weak engine and poor transmission. It feels like driving in a standard with the way the transmission is but the car is an automatic. The thing has 60k miles on it. I'm hoping to get at least 100k miles out of it. If I can, I'll push it to 150k but I seriously doubt it will go that far. I think the first major repair over 3k that isn't covered by warranty and I'll just get rid of it. I miss my 2010 Ford Focus. That was a good car. I bought that used at 100k miles and it ran for 6 years without a major repair. I doubt this car will make a year or so without having a major repair. I bought it for grad school and I seriously regret the decision. Don't buy a Sonic...
