This car saved my life!

I had my Sonic for 8 years, and lost her to a T-bone collision. I was hit by a small SUV going about 60 mph. It took EMTs 30 minutes and the Jaws of Life to free me from the wreckage. The only severe injury I had was a broken left fibula. Not shattered, just a trauma break. My Ortho was amazed! He actually asked me about the car, so he could look into it for his teenager. He said that type of crash usually results in multiple breaks and shattering on the side of impact. He told me that I am incredibly lucky and that my Sonic is 100% the reason I am not paralyzed or worse! I would recommend to anyone with safety concerns!

Good fuel economy and comfortable car

I like this car. It has fun styling and gets good fuel mileage. For a small car it has a decent amount of power but I do own a manual transmission.

Awful

This car was a nightmare. I have owned a Mazda 3 for years and it's at 120k with no issues whatsoever. I've only ever had to pay for basic maintenance. Nothing whatsoever has ever broken in this car. I probably spent as much money fixing the Chevy Sonic as I did on the car itself. Engine went up before it ever hit 100k. This car is not well made and I have no idea how it has such a high reliability rating. I suspect that the ppl rating it don't know what true reliability is. Buy a Toyota or Mazda and you'll see what it means for a car to be reliable. Chevy makes cars that fall apart. This car was an endless money pit. The overall rating is poor because reliability is weighted more heavily than any other factor in my book. If a car isn't reliable, it's not worth buying at all.

Can't complain, 111k miles.

I purchased a 12' LT 1.4 Turbo manual trans hatchback Sonic as my first car out of HS; payed it off in 2 years and continue to drive it today. It got me through college and into my career today now almost 8 years later. It's a cool little car with a little torque and averages me 37mpg as I commute with it. Always have done my own synthetic oil changes/tire rotations and inspected my brakes as well as payed attention to my fluids, changed all my own filters, etc. So what has gone wrong you may ask? Well I've had to replace my Valve Cover twice due to a tear in a spot that is unaccessible and requires a change (Part cost like 60-80 bucks from amazon or dealer and takes a couple hours to change on your own. or like $400+ to get it done by dealer. My thermostat housing gasket blew out and i leaked a little coolant and i needed to change that; approx $50 part and a couple hours of work. at 100k I changed spark plugs and had to get the shocks/struts/sway bars replaced as i live off a dirt road and started to hear them clunk a little. maybe like $700-800 i forget. I'm barely changing the brakes/rotors at 111k miles. they held up like a xxxx i tell you. very impressed. I also commute, downshift at times and just cruise so maybe that had something to do with it. I'm waiting for the turbo to need attention but so far its been working good so knock on some xxxx wood. But I'm ready for it as all things get worn down over time. Until then I have to say my experience with this car has been an absolute great one.

Great first car!

This is a peppy, subcompact car. It has great get up and go. The inside is comfortable and pretty quiet (road noise is not an issue). The exterior styling makes it look newer than 7 years. It is a first car for my son and he loves it!

Works well until 130,000 miles

I bought this car new in 2012 and cared for it per recommended by the manufacturer (my first and last Chevrolet). At 130,000 miles we now need a new engine. It will cost $6,000 to replace. I have never had this happen to a car before.
