needed a fuel saving car fast

I bought my spark in sept 2013 i went to my local chevy dealer in need of a car fast my old car rusted out i was looking for a good used car. The salesman told me about the 2014 spark that was cheap enough and has full warranty. The gas mileage is great average 38 mpg. I like the style and size i am 6.2 and fit well. I drive 100 miles a day I needed to add cruise control on my ls model because my knee started hurting from not being able to stretch out my leg. The things I dont like when it is cold out has no power slow from stop. It is going to dealer this week because when tempature drops below 20 degrees I start it up and turn the steering wheel and something is clunking in the steering and it is very stiff till car warms up. The dealer said this is a strange problem because the steering is electronic. Overall nice little car for the money. I wish i would have bought the LT model that has keyless entry and screen to sync my phone. One more thing i dont like it does not come with a spare tire they give you a air pump and bottle of sealent. I will be looking for a donut spare. So for price and gas saving it is worth it.

Recently purchased

I have had this car for a couple of weeks now - it has nice "get up and go" and has already taken my family of four on two longer road trips. Averaging 35 miles per gallon. I have the LT1 model with a manual transmission. The only program I have encountered is sometimes it doesn't pair up automatically with my mobile phone, which is most important with a manual shift car. The amount of cargo space looks very small, but it holds more than I would have thought. I am enjoying this car very much.

Love the Spark

We bought the 2013 Spark over a year ago and have put on 30 thousand miles. It's practically as good as new. It's a monster in the snow, and it's had no problem getting up or down hills where other cars get stuck. It's a little noisy, but nothing the radio doesn't cover. Never issues with speed on the highway, but getting up speed to pass uphill can be tricky. The inside is comfortable - a little squishy when you get two in the backseat, but for shorter rides it's not so bad. The cluster is a little overwhelming - there's too much information and not enough space. I wish it was either all digital or all analogue. The car is small and easy to handle and fits practically everywhere so parking is a breeze. The back door handles make a big blind spot - too bad that isn't a window instead. Gas mileage is usually between 30-35, and with such a small take filling up never costs much (the downside is you have to fill up more often, but it lessens the sting a little bit). Overall, I love my Spark.

This car is trouble

I have had this car for over a year and commute 100 miles round trip everyday. I use full synthetic oil and change it every 7000 miles. At 22k the car started using oil. I travel for work a lot and doing the oil consumption test is a pain in the butt. The dealer made me feel like I was lying about the oil I had to put in it between oil changes. At 37k the car still uses oil....99% of it from free way driving. My suggestion is dont drive it on freeway...EVER. Never had the RPMs over 4500. Driving to work this morning the engine light popped on and so did the traction control light. Car starts chugging and acts like it wants to stall at traffic light. Total loss of power and I am afraid to make my hour commute home, afraid it is going to strand me in the middle of know where. My advise. Do NOT buy a spark.

not happy

I bought this car a few months back. I am totally happy with the amount of gas it burns. Not one bit happy with the back seats not laying down and I am totally fed up with my armrest that does not stay in place and the company will not fix. I am also displeased with the inside of my window steaming up first thing in the morning. I have to clean it off from the inside. I am not looking forward to winter with thing. Oh but everyone says it looks cute...

car specialist

Bought my Spark 6 week ago,to drive from home to work, week day. Gas milage not to bad,i like driving fast,so average 30-32 mpg,on 80 mph. Full tank good for almost 300 miles, very nice brake pedal filling ,smooth shifting 5 speed manual transmission. A/C not so good when stay , but not to bad when driving. So i recomend this car for everyone ,for funny driving car under $13.000.

Good car overall but tranny can be tricky

Love the car overall: Good milage, great comfort, even great space inside, but the other day the tranny got stuck in 1st gear after starting it up and it is only 7 months old with 8700 miles on it. I have not been rough with the transmission in particular so I would not understand why it would do that this young in it's life. I had to pull over to the side of the road and shut it off before it would cooperate again. It may have been a computer-related issue as there is a software recall on the 2013 Sparks, but not sure why it would effect the transmission! Would I recommend it? Probably but check out the transmission on your test drive and while you are at it, take a few different test drives in the same Spark to make sure the tranny is reliable! My point overall: On the plus side, gas is great, fun colors and comfort. Caveat: Bright colors (of any make and model for that matter) are police-magnetic!!! Watch your speed in these Sparks--they are hot! :)

Great if you live in a place that has no hills

I rented this car for a business trip in southern Cali. The gas mileage was good. The interior space was good. The rest is downhill. Which is the only way you'll get this woefully underpowered car to go over 55mph. Accelerating uphill on a highway or merging with highway traffic is an exercise in patience not necessarily for you but the people behind you. The many blind-spots , which is unbelievable for a car with this profile, make merging a little frightening. At 55mph the engine sounded like it was going to explode. The motorcycle style instrument cluster is a little bit too busy for my taste. I'm sure I would get used to it but it was hard to pick out relevant info easily. The AC was absolutely anemic. I was sweating like a pig before I could make my meetings. Everything seemed really cheap. The door handle felt like it was going to snap off in my hand. It's only good for city commutes really.

Sparky is the one for me!

I love this car!!!! I had done research on the Chevy Spark prior to purchasing it. I needed something that was fuel efficient. I kept track of the mileage and the gallons of gas ( the old fashion way)... My meter says Im averaging 37.7 MPG but Im actually averaging exactly 40 MPG in town, just driving short distances. I am planning a long trip the end of this week and I cant wait to see how the MPG does on the Interstate. The seats are comfy and the car rides so nice. I love getting into it everyday and driving it. Its a super fun car and a great conversation piece. Two of my aunts love it and are considering buying one. I would love to be a spokesperson for this car! lol
