Engine & CVT make for magic carpet ride
Owned econo cars & featherfooted them to 50+MPG. My SE Caliber 2 liter w/CVT tranny is elegantly smooth. Highway runs give 35MPG. Rides into the mountains give over EPA highway mileages of 32MPG. Intown driving suffers badly tho, giving only 27MPG...some owners say less. Hard acceleration from 0 to 15mph is CVT computer controlled & poor. Above slow, acceleration & passing are OK. But the start makes for mediocre overall acceleration. Suspension is not harsh & in corners the car is not prone to lean too much. Pretend car racers may think otherwise. Front seats are firm but comfy on long trips with good support. The Caliber is not space efficient, wasting space from the firewall to the instrument panel front, & also at the very back of the car. Because of this wastage, possible large rear storage space is lost & back seats are short of leg & foot space, as well as being flat. The highest level Caliber was made for all wheel drive. If your Caliber doesn't have all powered wheels, you still lose space front & back because of the design of the floor. The Caliber has large blind spots front & rear. Be aware of them or they will hurt you...or someone else. The standard radio w/CD player is wonderful. The four 6 by 9 inch speakers give brisk clean highs, sensuous oboe, flute & clarinet midrange, & an easy rolling deep bass. Only rockers losing their hearing need the very extra cost 450 watt Musicgate. Had the electronics governing the fuel injection misinterprete the fuel-air ratio, causing my Caliber to buck. A quick electronic reset at the dealer & my Caliber is smoother than silk again.

good car so far
I have put over 8000 miles on my caliber R/T and it has been a great little car so far but time will tell with no complaints but for a R/T version it lacks on the performance side and the plastic coated hub caps they put over the stock wheels is extremly cheesie for a 700 dollar option. i have achieved upto 27.5 mpg and i think that is good for an awd

well worth it
i have racked up over 6,000 miles in my 1.8 sxt manual which consistently gets 32mpg. my comute is about 70/30 highway/ city. there is loads of passanger and/ or cargo room inside. the sound system is excellent. a lock to fix the armrest in position would be nice and similar for the cooler - which otherwise works great, nice feature. great car.

less MPG per gal. than expected
overall car is cute looks good but it feels like it want to flip over on curves, also i had to fill up two times since I bought it and i am barely at 445 miles,my fuel light came on at 84 miles i filled up then at 324 miles it was back on again, the estimated 26/30MPG was way off we bought the car for its fuel economy but my 1990 Cadillac deville saves more gas than this little car,it is reliable nice looking but if you want fuel economy I would not suggest this car.

Caliber
The Dodge Caliber I purchased had 3,800 miles on it. I was driving it for about 25 minutes or about 30 miles when I pulled to the side and noticed black smoke from the engine. Make a long story short my insurance said it was a total loss.

good, but not perfect
I've owned my Caliber Sxt for one month now, onlydriven it 350 miles, mostly in town. It's comfortable and quiet and quite manuverable. during this time I put about 100 highway miles on it- the CVT is great on the open road. for those hwy miles I got 28 mpg. the city driving was only23mpg. much less than the EPA rating- perhaps air conditioner use lowered it. Too bad the fuel-saving CVT is only available with the 2.0 engine- here you're swapping decent hwy milage for so-so town milage. THE aDS MAKE A BIG THING OF THE 115Va/c RECEPTACLE, BUT IT IS LARGELY USELESS being non-grounded, while bthe owners' manual warns you against using an adapter. for a grounded( 3-prong) plug.I can't recharge my laptop battery without a 3-pronged receptacle. I can't imagine what use that non-grounded receptacle might be, except possibly a gimmick to compete with the Matrix/Vibe twins.but this is merely a minor point. The car is roomy and comfortable and pleasant to drive. Plus very distinctive looking. A friend described it as looking like a Matrix on steroids.even though the 2.0 engine is not great on mpg, it's a very comfortable open road engine- plenty of OOmph when needed. guess I can't have everything in one car.

Poorly built, terrible mileage
Chrysler has to stop building cars for midlife crisis types and build something worth owning. This si a piece of junk. Poor gas mileage and rattles galore.

Kids too!
I owned a Dodge Neon for years, but with the new seatbeat laws in our state, decided I would need to get something a little bigger. I saw the Caliber and thought it was really a cute car. It gets great gas mileage and I was able to fit a twin mattress it in once the seats were folded down, and my daughter in the back seat too. There's really no place for your purse, but I will adjust. I got the SXT and instead of getting the Sports Package, I opted to increase my warranty to 5/100. My daughter calls it the "Magic School Bus", my fiance calls it the "Short Bus", I call it a keeper. Thanks Dodge!

Perfect Roadtrip
I own a Caliber SXT sport Edition with the 158 hp 2.0-liter I-4, It has now over 3400 miles on it from Road Trips to different amusment parks. It has yet to give me ANY problems. Up to four of my adult size friends can fit in Caliber comfortably along with me. It's Chillzone Keeps our drinks Nice and cool while its 458-watt 9 Boston Acoustic speaker sound system with subwoofer with Sirius Satellie Radio makes Caliber have Loads more entertainment then any other car of this class that I have driven/driven in.
