Practical Power

Plenty of power, no transmission gears - smooth acceleration, excellent in the turns, room for luggage, 30 mpg, A/C in the glove box for drinks: and all very economical. After 50,000 miles I would buy my Caliber again.

Great!

A perfect Crossover which brings you comfort and excitement at the same time. CVT, 6 Airbag standard and 4 Wheel ABS give you security and protection. EPA of 27 city, and 32 for highway are really impressive. I really enjoy it. Big just like a SUV.

Will never buy another

We bought this car three years ago. After the second year, our car began to lose power. This lasted several months, then the problem disappeared for a few months. Now, about six months later, my car is sitting in my drive collecting dust. Beware of the THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY! I went car shopping for a Buick...wish I had stuck with that idea!

Looks, price and performance!

I own a 2007 Dodge Caliber R/T 2.4 liters AWD. I love the looks of this car! I have the version with almost everything from leather seats to illuminated cup holders, sunroof, and those big beautiful 18 Inches polished wheels. I was looking for a vehicle with good gas mileage and AWD. I live in Pennsylvania winters here are horrible and long, with lots of snow. I drive about 30,000 miles a year on average (I work from my car). Let?s review the good: the 115 V outlet let me keep my laptop plugged in and always charged. The front seats are really comfortable and mine got heated seats. Air conditioner system is decent, so is the car stereo, I have the one with Sirius installed on it and love it, also like the controls installed on the side of the wheel and not over it. Gas is about 22 and 30 miles city/highway on average. It takes a little bit to get used to the CVT transmission. You need to realize this car does not have a timing belt... so it is a little bit slow to accelerate. I love to be 16 inches above the highway; makes you feel like driving an SUV, fantastic anti-lock brakes on the four wheels; the suspension is great, decent road noise; once the car is going at 65 MPH the ride is just awesome. Good safety features like side air bags and the only car I had ever seen with knee air bags. The front lights are brilliant and the fog lights a life saver in bad weather conditions, the tail lights are also big and can be seen from great distance. I use the back to carry lots of stuff and love the space, very roomy. The parts price are reasonable, but not the accessories. I recommend using only full synthetic oil if you want your Caliber to perform at its best. Getting decent spark plugs, air and oil filters will be a smart choice; they cost more, but are worth it if you want better gas mileage and your car to last longer. Because I drive a lot I have the tires inflated with Nitrogen to save even more gas, have them rotated every 6,000 miles, and use an injector cleaner on the tank every 3,000 miles. The only few things I don?t like about it? visibility towards the back is not the best when you are short like me; adding a couple of blind spots mirrors helped; it is only comfortable for four adults, the cup holders on the back row makes no sense to me, the back seat is not big. The only way to add a roof rack is buying it from Dodge, and installation is so complicated (requires drilling) that only the dealer should do it, frustrates me because it is very expensive. Does not have mud flaps, they cost a lot aftermarket. No lock on the gas tank cap. The gas door opens from the outside. I recommend this car; over all it is good for the money. I had found that for me it has the looks, price and performance! Thanks for reading my review

Just the right car for me

I'm a widow and this car is just right for me. It has taken me over the mountains and to the camp grounds. It's easy to drive and maintain.

Good car for the price

2007 SXT w/ 2L engine, purchased in 2008. I bought this car used with 14k on it and 2 years later, I'm at 70k (yeah, I drive a lot). I loved the higher stance inside and out and the aggressive look right from the start. The stereo system is pretty good. The interior trim and the CVT transmission don't bother me because I bought a $10-15k car! So far, no problems really. I am starting to hear the transmission "squeal" a bit...like it's struggling or like I'm pushing it too much. A/C is cold, comfortable ride, blind spots are a bit rough (solved with small stick on mirrors), cooler is not for initial cooling but for keeping already cold drinks cold, slow acceleration is expected with the CVT. The cargo back is great and roomy, tires are nice and big, and saftey features are plentiful (knee airbag, side airbags, etc). Oh, before I forget..NO ROOF RACKS have been designed yet for this car and probably wont be. This is the biggest drawback I've found since I've needed to use this feature should it have been available.

A great car!

My car is a 2007 SXT with the 2.0 liter engine. It has the feature where the day time running lamp is turned off when the turn signal for that side of the car is blinking; a good safety feater. It also has the in dash cooler which I used on a 20 hour trip from Florida to New York and back; it works well. I've also used the flash light. During my 20 hour non-stop trip, I really appreciated the seats. Very good upper and lower back support; you can feel the seat padding on your upper and lower back and sides. I'm 70 years old and I didn't collapse after my 20 hour run. I like being ablel to raise and lower the driver seat. The rear seats have plenty of leg room. The car has really good performance and handling as when I was driving in hilly, twisting two lane roads in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. In city I get an average of 24 MPG and on the trip I got a steady 33 MPG. Remember this is a hatch back, not a sedan. I like the exterior styling; the car stands out and gets looks. Yes, the interior has a lot of plastic but for me that is not a problem. I bought this car for its utility features. Taking it on that long trip was a test and I'd do it again in a heart beat. The suspension is super, handling rough roads better than my 2000 wide track Pontiac Grand Prix. One major safety feature that no one mentions. Another brand recently had a recall of over a million cars due to the driver floor mat getting under the gas pedal and blocking it. The Caliber has a hook on the floor that grabs the floor mat, preventing it from creeping forward under the gas pedal. A lot of thought went into this car and I've used every convenience feature and appreciate the handling, styling and performance features that the car has. This may be my last car and if that is true, I'm one happy camper with the Caliber.

Cadillac Deville 1999

I leased this vehicle to replace a mazda protege and unfortunately it does not stand up to the television commercials focusing on great gas mileage. It is also unreliable in regard to mechanical failure such as not being able to get the vehicle out of park with only 29,000 kms. My wife was stranded with two grandchildren and had to contact road side assistance who advised her of a recall for this problem which we never received. Consumer reports negative.
