Comparisons to my traded in Hyundai Santa Fe
I traded in a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, which was a mid-trim for a fully loaded version of the Ford Edge Sport. There are definitely some things better in the Ford, but the comparison results are mixed. Of course, the vehicles are not exactly equivalent. The Santa Fe is a 3 row crossover, while the Ford is one of the few vehicles in the mid-sized two-row crossover segment. When I replaced my Santa Fe I had 5 objectives. I wanted (1) to get smaller because my needs got smaller (2) to get a more fun to drive vehicle (3) a vehicle that at least had the same features as the Hyundai (4) a vehicle that was as comfortable (5)something that looked good. So how did the Ford do? (1) The Ford is a lot shorter in length, about 8 inches shorter. It is slightly shorter in height, and about equal in width. So it fits in my garage better, but is it more maneuverable? Surprising, it is not. It has a much greater turning radius than the Hyundai (maybe because it has 21 inch wheels compared to the 18" on the Hyundai) . The Hyundai had better visibility, especially because of its giant side mirrors. Also, the Ford and Hyundai weight about the same. So it feels at least as big if not bigger to drive. Going smaller, what did I give up other than the third row. I would say the the front row and cargo room are as roomy. However, the Hyundai's second row was far roomier. The mileage is about the same. So I would rate item 1 a tie. (2) The engine fo the Ford is a 2.7 L twin turbo boosted V6 with 315 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque compared to the Hyundai's 3 L naturally aspirated V6 with 290 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. The Ford is much quicker, about 2 seconds faster 0 to 60. So it is much easier to move around in traffic. The biggest weakness of the Hyundai was its vague steering, and the Ford's steering is much more precise. The Hyundai had a very soft suspension so there was a lot of body roll through curves. The Ford's suspension is much stiffer and handles curves a lot more confidently. So in the driver fun category, Ford scores a definite win. (3) Even though the Hyundai was only a mid-trim, it came pretty well equipped. It had heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8" screen with backup camera and navigation, and a 10 speaker stereo. The Ford has all these features and a lot more. However, even though the gauges and infotainment interace of the Hyundai was 5 years old, and the Ford has the new Sync 3 system, in many ways the Hyundai had more functionality, was easier to use, and had a more responsive touchscreen. Ford's Sync 3 system, button array, and dashboard display comes close but is not as good (except for the big exception that Sync 3 has Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The older Hyundai did not although new models do.) which is actually high praise because the Hyundai's system is about the best in the business (one of the most highly underated aspects of Hyundais and Kias). The Ford has pretty much all the modern features you could want except for adaptive cruise control which can come to a complete stop, and automatic emergency braking. So score a win for the Ford. (4) The Ford's seats in front are as comfortable, the rear seats a lot less roomy. The Ford has electronic steering wheel tilt and telescoping which can be saved for up to 3 drivers. However, the steering wheel feels rough and uncomfortable. At speeds below about 80 mph, the Ford is quieter, but it has a lot of piped in artificial engine noise. Above 80, the Ford has more wind and road noise. Ease of entry is about the same. The stiffer suspension of the Ford causes the ride to be a little jittery over rough surfaces, although it is not too harsh. So I call it a draw. (5) The Hyundai was a handsome vehicle, but the Ford definitely outshines it in an all-black Sport trim with its side skirts, front and rear bumpers, and giant 21" inch wheels. The interior of the Ford looks slightly more upscale but not hugely so. Summary: the Ford wins in 3 out of categories, and ties in 2, but it is not overwhelming win I thought it would be. At full MSRP of nearly $49000, it would have been a poor value. However, expect to get huge discounts. I got mine at a $9000 discount so it makes it a much better deal.

We traded in our 2013 Ford Edge
We so loved our 2013 that we opted to get a new one with more bells and whistles. And our car insurance went down due to all the safety options.
