Worst car I ever drove
I got this car in Florida for two weeks. Never drove a Ford, so I said why not. The car was one of the two options at the time. The car is verty underpowered for a SUV. Transmission is terible. The car jolts most of the time when changing gear. The cabin is very noisy, poorly designed and the plastic used of very poor quality. Once you go over 75 mph you can hear wind draft. I got 24 mpg going mostly on highways at 80 mph. By the way, car was almost new with only 6,000 miles on. And who in the world is still using a three feet antena sticking on the side of the car? Positives: seats we confortable enough. Elecrtic seats adjustments and automated lights were nice on a rental. Also the handling was fine and one the car got to the crusing speed it seems to be in its zone. Not sure what some people found so nice about this car to give a four or five stars, but my old Chrysler Concorde '99 is shear luxury compared to this car.

can't believe I wanted to buy this
After driving an Acura MDX I wanted a smaller SUV with better mpg and lower payments. I did get lower payments but not much improvement in fuel economy. My Acura avergaged 22mpg. I had the escape for 7 months and so far I only averaged 2 miles more a gallon. I did chose the 4 cyl for better gas mileage but there was no point. Plus it has no power at all. I regret that I bought it. Theres no other option but to just pay off the rest of this piece of junk and sell it, then buy another Honda made vehicle. Another thing my friend had the Escape Hybrid fwd and gets the same mpg I get in the regular and Ford claims it gets up to 34. That is false!!

Very Happy with the Escape
Overall, it is a very good vehicle. MPG is better than advertised (26 city 32 hwy). Quiet, smooth ride. No extras in the base model I purchased, but for $19,200 I feel like I got my money's worth. No problems except the air bag light will not go out. Occasionally the transmission jumps in first gear if I accelerate before it is fully engaged, but overall I love the smooth shifting 6 speed transmission. The 4 cyl is great in the city, passes quickly on the highway, and cruises smoothly. This is the first Ford I have owned since 1969 Mustang, but in this economy I had to buy American.

6 cyl. AWD piece of junk
I've had this vehicle for 10 months. Nothing but problems. Ford has known about the transmission problems for three years, and still doesn't have a fix. I've had water problems inside the car, but from rain and car washes, and from the air conditioner backing up to cause a flood inside. Serious build problems as well. Stay away from this car. I've owned a dozen Fords before, but this will be my last one, for sure.

First SUV Driver
This is my first SUV and my first Ford! Overall, I really like the car. I am concerned that the car drives like a manual even though it's an automatic. The engine is loud, and shifting is felt inside the car. When on the bluetooth phone, callers can't hear me when I take off from a stop position because of the noise. In addition, the gas gauge does not go to full when filling up with gas. I would like to have these issues addressed. Other than this, I really like the car. It has a lot of power, and I love it's design.

Very impressed
I just finished driving a rental 2011 Ford Escape for two days. I put about 500 miles on the vehicle, mostly freeway driving, in dry and wet conditions, day and night, and I really hated to have to return it to the rental company. Even though it was a rental, it was nicely equipped, with a power moonroof, premium sound system, heated leather seats, and Sync. The four-cylinder engine was more than adequate, if not stellar. The ride was smooth and very predictable and I felt safe and secure driving at night in rain through the Grapevine, just south of Bakersfield, CA. I loved sitting higher up (I own a Prius!) and the visibility was great. Everything felt very top-notch and well made. There was plenty of room for cargo. I would like to see an armrest for back seat passengers, but that's not a big deal. I guess the best thing I can say about the Escape is that I'm seriously thinking about one to replace my aging Prius. Ford has made a great smaller SUV that's fun to drive and is reasonably fuel efficient.
