This is a great vehicle

When purchasing a vehicle we usually look at the price first. We shouldn't do such, because we don't know all the features we miss from a car. Well if you want an affordable & very nice vehicle, then a FORD EXPEDITION is just the car for YOU.

Showing why Ford is in trouble

I have rented two of these, an XLT and an Eddie Bauer, but I did drive them 4,000 miles with five passangers in a variety of weather conditions. Accomodation: all seats are comfortable for adults, the driver's seat position is better than in older versions. With the DVD option adults in the middle rear seat have limited forward visibility. The manual hvac controls are adequate. The climate control system can tend to 'stall' if there isn't enough air flow, turning up the flow gets it with the plan. Stereo is adequate, but no more than that, certainly not good. It may have a six disk in dash changer but there's no facility to connect an iPod, way behind the times. Luggage space is plenty for five people for a week with the thord row seats down, with the third row up you are reduced to space for one person's luggage. The third row is easy to fold down but a lot harder to get back up from the rear, unless you have the electric fold option. The center console cubby is cavenous, I had two cameras, binoculars, sun glasses, hat, sunscreen, bug repellant, PDA, cell phone and charging cables in there with room to spare. Performance, economy and handling: for a 300hp vehicle the Expedition isn't fast, I guess it's all that weight. The transmission shifts smoothly but often to the wrong gear for what you are about to do and there's no easy way to override the column shift. Conversely in 2wd mode it's very easy to spin an inside rear wheel, leave it in auto 4x4 mode and save the embarrasment. With this power and torque you should expect traction control or at least a rear LSD. Handling is adequate, it tracks well enough and is reasonably easy to place on the road. Agregate fuel economy was 17.5mpg over 4000 miles of mostly legal freeway speeds and a little city driving. The standard tires are a bit noisy at low speeds but you don't really hear them or the engine at 70-75. I didn't find the size an issue, the turning circle is reasonable and parallel parking in a regular spot was no particular chore. Conclusion: My first advice would be to check Nissan and Toyota. If you want a Ford then unless you absolutely need the size or towing capacity I think the Explorer v8 is a better bet, almost as big, almost as powerful, much more lively and more economical.

Ford Expedition - Good, Bad, not SO ugly...

2006 Ford Expedition, purchased new in Oct. 2005 LOADED. Even got the butt chillers to go with the butt warmers. *Seats 5 adults, 1 child and 1 infant no problem. *Gas mileage ... well, we knew what we were getting into, didn't we? *Driving, handling are fine. Good lord, it's a boat - everyone generally gets out of your way. *creature comforts are MOSTLY great. *Trying to get the DVD/TV system to play audio where you want it, WHILE driving.. well that's an adventure to say the least. BIG COMPLAINT: Navigation system. You have GOT to be kidding me about this one. APPALLING and ATROCIOUS don't even BEGIN... First - ever heard of TOUCH SCREEN??? Wands, buttons, push this push that push it again...NOT INTUITIVE HERE Ford.... Second - who PROGRAMMED this? There are several ways to program in a destination (please reserve 10-15 minutes at the beginning of EVERY trip to do this). Then they have a 'Points of Interest' menu, so if you are going to the zoo or local museum, it's EASY to find (right? Easy, right?). Oh try again - EVERY SINGLE ENTRY for a destination in Chicago sends us TO IOWA. I'd be in NEBRASKA if I followed what it says. Third - 13 DVD's? Are you freaking kidding me? My friends Acura TL nav does it all with ONE DVD, and it has a bigger viewing screen and touch screen. Fourth - GPS lock. Got ya on this one Ford. I've actually WORKED with GPS and it shouldn't take 15 minutes for a lumbering 60 mph vehicle to lock on to any ONE of a number of GPS satellites. I've seen flight systems moving at 5x that speed do it in 15 seconds. If you do HAVE to get the Ford Le Behemouth gas guzzler - pass on the Nav. Mere words cannot express.... I have seriously considered prying it out of the dashboard JUST so I could jump up and down on it...
