12k in 3 months

Style, comfort and speed are what the new Explorer is all about. This is my third Explorer and it is the best yet- last two Explores had 195K and 152K and no problems. This car meets all expectations from seating six to hauling equipment. I average 26 mpg on highway with about a 100 lbs of gear at 75 mph and about 22 mpg in the city. This is the XLT and it is loaded lots of options about same price as my loaded old Limited Explorer with 152K. Ford has done a great job on the Explorer it rides like a Lincoln MKS and has room like a F150 crew cab. Hope to get 250K miles out of this car as it will be a classic.

Amazing Vehicle!

This is by far the best in a series of SUV's that I have owned. You have to give credit to Ford for an impressive upgrade in quality and features. The ride is quiet and smooth with excellent handling. Some reviewers have noted torque steer but don't notice it. Drivers spend most of our time in the cabin and there the materials and features are outstanding. The Sync system is not perfect but I love it. You can even load a library of 32 photos to view on you touch screen! Ford is pushing us into the future: most vehicles will have similar systems in a few years. Have had no problems after 1000 mi. and average about 20MPG combined driving. It's not a cheap vehicle but you get more than what you pay for!

very impressed, feels like a new modern car, very quiet, adaptive cruise and park assist is a must have option, roomy and adults can actually set in third row seats, nice radio, ambient lighting very nice touch. mpg is good, we average 21 with 4x4. many many extras. this is a must drive before you buy suv. we like it very much.

test drove it, but...

I am shocked to see that a car that is valued at 39K can have so much added on that they expect me, a hard working american, to pay close to 52K for this vehicle. They are outragously priced!!!! I mean does the exaust pour out gold or something. I ended up getting a 2011 Kia sorento SXV6 fully loaded with by far a much better warrenty for 31K out the door! soory Ford I love you, but If I wanted to pay that much I would be shopping for a BMW!!!!!!!!!!!

Good-Looking and Stylish, But Interior Design Flaw

We bought this car to replace an aging Suburban, and to downsize. We looked at the BMW X5, GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave, Ford Edge, and others. When we were at the Ford dealer we saw a good-looking SUV we didn't recognize, and when we walked up to it realized it was an Explorer. To us the car has European styling, except for the over-sized cowling on the front end which is definitely American. The engine acceleration is adequate, but won't blow you away. We kind of miss the more powerful feeling you get with most GM SUV power-trains. Favorite Features My favorites are the electric fold-down, disappearing rear seats. Not to mention its good looks, leg room, and fit-and-finish. Ford Sync should be one of my favorites (since I'm into tech), but for some reason it isn't. There is a strange delay between touching the screen for a function, and the function actually happening. Trying to learn and operate this system while driving could easily cause an accident. Be sure and bring a 'Ford Sync Operator' person (a co-pilot) with you while driving. Suggested Improvements Trouble syncing Android phone while Iphone syncs easily. Space between seat and console is tight so dropping something (ie: phone) in there is impossible to retrieve while driving. My number one issue are the front seat armrests. The distance from the front seats to the doors has been increased to the point where the armrests on the doors are useless. In order to use these armrests you have to slump toward the door which moves your back out of the seat contours. On long drives the seat is comfortable, but not having good armrests makes the drive unpleasant for me. This could be fixed easily by installing front seats with fold down armrests. To fix both of my issues I suppose you could move the seat two inches closer to the door which would get you closer to the door armrest and increase the space between the seat and the console. You'd probably need to increase the size of the console storage top (armrest) an inch or so on either side if you did this. Are you listening, Ford?

Ford does have a better idea

This new Explorer is the best new Ford I've owned. have had 12 others in the past. It is quiet and responsive. The styling is awesome Al the electronic features are way above everyone else. The voice activated systems, the back up camera. The Blind spot features are more than other cars. The gas mileage is great, I am averaging 22.3 overall in almost 4000 miles so far,. You won't be disappointed in this vehicle. Way to go Ford

So, so...

if not for being so costly, i could more easily understand what i call teething pains for a car just introduced. for just under $50,000, i expected a better, refined and roomier crossover with a lot of power. a big truck such as the explorer needs a larger v8. the seats are the materials are nice on the limited and the sunroof is a treat.
